About The Position

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting for a Human Resources Manager . This position is responsible for developing, administering, and evaluating human resources programs and HR Generalist staff for MDT across the state of Montana. This includes performance evaluations, promotions, discipline, career development, employee relations, compensation, Americans with Disabilities Act, policy development and administration, labor relations negotiations, FMLA, recruitment and retention, and special projects. The position reports to the People Operations Bureau Chief. While this position has been located in Helena, any location within the State of Montana may be considered. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, public administration, communications, or a related field.
  • 5 years of progressively responsible experience in human resources and proven work experience leading change, demonstrated ability to motivate and work with people at all levels of the organization.
  • a minimum of 1 year of supervision or experience leading teams.
  • Experience with labor and employee relations in a union environment.
  • Alternative qualifications include\: Any combination of related work experience and education equivalent to the minimum qualifications.
  • Knowledge of recruitment, HR principles, state and federal laws, labor relations
  • Communication skills, critical thinking skills, customer service skills
  • The successful candidate must pass a name-based background investigation as a condition of employment.
  • Driver’s record will be verified.
  • Successful applicants will be required to sign a release form which authorizes the Department to obtain the applicant’s permanent driving records.
