About The Position

The Field Museum of Chicago is an educational institution with an active exhibition and public education program, and an academic institution with more than 100 years of experience in conducting scientific research and fieldwork. The Field Museum's mission is to connect individuals to the natural world and the human story. The Human Resources Department of the Field Museum is looking for an HR intern who will support the Volunteer and Intern Program Manager, while learning various aspects of HR coordination. Duties include recruitment, hiring and onboarding of new volunteers and interns, offboarding, special events planning and database management. The intern will also be responsible for creating several types of communication resources, such as monthly newsletters, E- weekly updates and submission of a final Intern Report upon completion of Internship.

Requirements

  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Experience working with Canva required.
  • Must have strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Excellent attention to detail and highly organized.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently

Nice To Haves

  • Previous administrative/office experience is preferred.
  • A friendly demeanor and enthusiastic attitude; an adaptable and flexible personality.
  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Museum Studies, Non-profit Management or similar field is preferred.
  • Recent graduates are eligible- 6 months maximum from start of internship.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Volunteer and Intern Program Manager with coordination of the Museums Spring/Summer 2026 Internship program.
  • Serving as a point of contact for interns, i.e. creating and sending out weekly email updates; answering intern questions; providing ongoing information to the spring/summer intern cohort.
  • Assisting with recruitment-related activities including posting of open positions through online application systems and scheduling interviews.
  • Assisting with hiring and onboarding of new interns, including use of Clear Company recruiting software.
  • Assisting with hiring and onboarding of new volunteers.
  • Processing required paperwork and maintenance of the database for intern and volunteer programs, as needed.
  • Planning summer internship events and activities, including behind the scenes tours, lunches, seminars, and the annual internship breakfast.
  • Creating documents (flyers, newsletter, cards, etc.) using Canva.
  • Gathering and maintaining intern data throughout the season and compiling it into an end-of-the-season Intern Report.
  • Participating in weekly HR staff meetings, giving updates on projects and events.
  • Occasional front desk coverage for the Human Resources Department, as needed.
