About The Position

SELF Inc. is seeking a motivated, Human Resources professional who is excited to grow their HR skillset in a mission-driven, nonprofit environment. The Human Resources Generalist plays a key role in supporting the daily people operations of the organization and works closely with the Director of Human Resources to ensure employees are supported, informed, and set up for success. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys learning by doing, thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on setting, and wants broad exposure across many areas of HR. This position requires flexibility, curiosity, and a willingness to pitch in where needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business, or a related field preferred (relevant experience)
  • 1–3 years of experience in an HR, administrative, or people operations role (nonprofit experience a plus, but not required)
  • Interest in building a career in Human Resources across multiple functional areas
  • Comfort working in a resourceful, evolving environment where priorities may shift
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Approachable, professional communication style with employees at all levels
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and integrity
  • Willingness to ask questions, learn new systems, and try new approaches

Nice To Haves

  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification encouraged but not required

Responsibilities

  • Support the full recruitment process, including posting jobs, coordinating interviews, screening candidates, and maintaining applicant tracking records
  • Assist with new employee onboarding and orientation, ensuring paperwork and I-9 documentation are completed accurately and on time
  • Maintain and update employee data in the Human Resource Information System (HRIS)
  • Help prepare and manage employment records related to hires, transitions, leaves, and separations
  • Provide support with payroll, benefits administration, and workers’ compensation processes
  • Assist in coordinating training and development initiatives
  • Help keep HR resources current, including employee handbooks, organizational charts, directories, and evaluation tools
  • Support employee relations efforts by assisting with documentation, communications, and process follow-up
  • Respond to employee questions and help ensure understanding of HR policies and procedures
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and community or interagency meetings as needed
  • Support compliance with HR programs, safety standards, and applicable labor laws
  • Travel locally (up to 50%) to support multiple locations, as required
  • Take on additional responsibilities as needed — adaptability is key in our environment
