About The Position

The HR Generalist supports the day-to-day human resources operations of ConnectAbility of MN and plays a key role in executing HR processes across the employee lifecycle. This position is responsible for administering core HR functions including recruiting support, onboarding and offboarding, benefits administration, payroll processing, employee relations support, compliance, and HR reporting. This role works closely with organizational leadership to implement HR strategies, ensure compliance with employment laws and internal policies, and maintain accurate and confidential employee records. The HR Generalist serves as a resource to employees and leaders by providing guidance on HR processes, escalating complex or high-risk issues as appropriate, and supporting a consistent and well-documented approach to human resources across the organization. This position is well-suited for an HR professional who is detail-oriented, collaborative, and interested in continued growth within the HR field.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2–4 years of experience in an HR Generalist or similar role supporting multiple HR functions
  • High level of confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience using HR Information Systems and Applicant Tracking Systems
  • Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR best practices
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to follow established processes while exercising sound judgment
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently and as part of a team

Nice To Haves

  • SHRM-CP, PHR, or other relevant HR certification or working toward an HR certification.
  • Prior experience in a non-profit is desired but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Administer core HR functions including recruiting support, onboarding, offboarding, benefits administration, employee relations support, payroll processing, performance management support, and compliance activities
  • Execute HR processes and procedures established by organizational leadership, ensuring consistency and accuracy
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date employee records, ensuring data integrity, confidentiality, and compliance with record retention requirements
  • Support talent acquisition efforts by coordinating job postings, screening resumes, conducting initial screening interviews, and scheduling interviews with leadership
  • Coordinate and administer the onboarding process to ensure a smooth and organized experience for new employees
  • Prepare and maintain onboarding documentation, system access, and required employment records
  • Process biweekly payroll, including earnings, deductions, and required documentation
  • Manage payroll-related items such as benefit deductions, garnishments, and payroll audits
  • Serve as a liaison between employees and benefits brokers or vendors
  • Coordinate benefits administration activities, including open enrollment and employee benefits changes
  • Respond to employee questions related to payroll and benefits and escalate complex issues as needed
  • Support leadership with employee relations matters by preparing documentation, providing guidance on process, and assisting with investigations and performance improvement plans
  • Assist with tracking and documentation related to disciplinary actions and performance management
  • Help ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and internal policies
  • Escalate legal, compliance, or high-risk issues to leadership as appropriate
  • Manage leaves of absence, including FMLA, ADA/ADAA, MN Paid Family & Medical Leave, ESST and other statutory and non-statutory leaves
  • Ensure timely communication, documentation, and compliance related to leave administration
  • Maintain and track employee licenses, certifications, and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate notifications related to upcoming expirations and renewal deadlines
  • Utilize HR systems and tools, including Paylocity and Microsoft platforms, to support HR operations
  • Maintain HR data accuracy and support reporting needs for leadership decision-making
  • Assist with internal audits and preparation of documentation for regulatory or reporting requirements
  • Support data collection and basic analysis of HR metrics to identify trends and support continuous improvement
  • Assist with coordinating training sessions, tracking participation, and maintaining training records
  • Support employee engagement initiatives such as surveys, recognition efforts, and internal communications
  • Support safety initiatives by coordinating training and tracking safety-related documentation as needed
  • Participate in cross-training to provide light backup support across organizational functions as needed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support organizational operations
