About The Position

We are seeking an experienced HR Business Partner to support a broad, multi-state employee population across the West Coast and Greater Chicago Area. This role serves as a trusted advisor to business leaders and is well suited for an HR professional comfortable operating at scale, owning complex employee relations matters, and influencing people strategy across a client group of 400+ employees. Success in this role requires deep expertise in multi-state employment environments, with a strong emphasis on California employment law. The HRBP will operate with a high level of autonomy, partner closely with leadership on organizational and people strategy, and help deliver a consistent, compliant, and engaging employee experience across locations. This position offers meaningful ownership within the region, exposure to senior leaders, approximately 25% travel, and a clear path toward expanded HR leadership responsibilities over time.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Human Resources experience, including 1–3 years as an HR Business Partner or in a senior strategic generalist role.
  • Proven track record resolving complex employee relations issues.
  • Deep, hands-on experience with California employment law, including compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Strong working knowledge of multi-state employment practices supporting geographically dispersed teams.
  • Experience supporting production, lab, or operations-based teams (food industry experience a plus).
  • Ability to coach leaders, influence without authority, and drive organizational change.
  • Comfortable operating independently as the primary HR partner for a large region.
  • Experience supporting large, complex employee populations (400+ employees across multiple locations).
  • Demonstrated leadership within HR, including mentoring or developing other HR professionals.
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 25%.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary HR advisor to production and lab leadership across the West Coast.
  • Lead labor and employee relations strategies with confidence and objectivity.
  • Independently manage complex employee matters and performance-related issues.
  • Apply deep knowledge of California employment law to mitigate risk and support sound business decisions.
  • Drive employee engagement and retention initiatives.
  • Influence organizational design, workforce planning, and change initiatives.
  • Partner with Legal and HR Centers of Excellence to execute high-impact people strategies.
  • Balance strategic partnership with hands-on execution, contributing to both long-term initiatives and day-to-day HR operations.
