About The Position

Operation New Hope is a nonprofit operating in Jacksonville, Orlando, St. Johns County, the Space Coast, Tampa, and St. Petersburg. Our pre-release and post-release programs provide job training and placement, and comprehensive support services to people returning from incarceration and others who have been affected by the justice system with the goal of facilitating successful transitions back into the community. We motivate our clients to become productive, responsible citizens, and our programs help prevent recidivism, reduce the repeated costs of incarceration, and improve public safety. Our dedicated team supports the career opportunities, mental health, and overall stability of our clients to help them achieve self-sufficiency. Position Overview: The HR Generalist supports the day-to-day functions of the Human Resources department and plays a key role in delivering a positive and meaningful employee experience. This position is responsible for recruitment and onboarding, employee relations support, benefits and leave administration, compliance tracking, training coordination, HR file maintenance, and employee engagement efforts. The HR Generalist ensures that HR processes are efficient, consistent, and aligned with organizational policies, employment laws, and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Psychology, or Business Administration required. In lieu of BA/BS degree, Associate’s degree in related field and a minimum of 5 years’ Human Resource related experience.
  • At least 4 years’ experience supporting the Human Resource function.
  • Current certification from a reputable human resource association; SHRM, PHR, etc.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Ability to quickly learn payroll management, human resource information system (HRIS), and similar computer applications.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to clear a Level I Background check through the Department of Corrections.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs.
  • Travel required: Up to 50%

Responsibilities

  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions per company policy; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required to fill vacancies and new positions.
  • Conducts or acquires all pre-hire requisites, pre-employment screenings, and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Conducts new hire orientation and onboarding, ensuring the 1st days of employment are engaging and impressionable.
  • Provides guidance to employees on HR policies, procedures, and benefits; responds to routine inquiries and escalates complex or sensitive issues to HR leadership.
  • Assists with employee relations matters including disciplinary documentation, investigations, and terminations as directed by the HR Supervisor.
  • Supports the administration of HR programs including compensation, benefits, leave management, performance and talent management, recognition and morale, occupational health and safety, and training and development.
  • Coordinates and tracks mandatory and non-mandatory training, certifications, licensure, and annual compliance requirements.
  • Assist with policy updates and the maintenance of the employee handbook.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and recommended HR best practices.
  • Assists with unemployment and workers’ compensation documentation and communication when needed.
  • Maintain HRIS and ensure accurate employee data entry.
  • Assists with planning and execution of employee engagement activities, recognition programs, and internal events.
  • Performs periodic audits of HR files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately.
  • Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Must be willing to travel to all locations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
