About this Opportunity: The HR Business Partner (HRBP), Herman Miller (HM) & Knoll Stores, serves as the dedicated strategic people partner for the HM/Knoll North America store fleet. This role supports the full employee lifecycle while enabling consistent people practices, strong leadership capability, and scalable growth across the brand. The HRBP provides end to end ownership for the HM/Knoll North America store population, partnering closely with General Managers, Market Leaders, and Regional Leaders. The role balances proactive thought partnership with strong operational execution, elevating the associate experience while ensuring compliance, effective risk management, and performance enablement

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 7+ years of progressive HR experience, preferably supporting multi site retail, field, or distributed employee populations.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex employee relations matters and advising senior field leaders.
  • Strong working knowledge of compensation planning, performance management, and talent development.
  • Proven ability to operate independently, manage competing priorities, and move fluidly between strategy and execution.
  • Trusted advisor with sound judgment, credibility, and the ability to influence without authority.
  • Calm, steady presence in ambiguous or high pressure situations.
  • Comfortable operating at scale while maintaining empathy and a strong associate experience lens.
  • Highly collaborative partner who brings structure, clarity, and follow through.
  • Data informed, solutions oriented, and grounded in MillerKnoll values.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary HR partner for the HM/Knoll North America store population, providing trusted counsel to Store, Market, and Regional Leaders.
  • Translate Global Retail and People strategies into clear, actionable people plans that support store performance, growth, and talent outcomes.
  • Identify trends across the North America fleet (e.g., performance, engagement, retention, risk) and proactively recommend solutions that drive consistency, effectiveness, and impact.
  • Lead and manage complex employee relations matters and investigations, ensuring fair, timely, and well documented outcomes.
  • Partner with Associate Relations and Centers of Excellence (COEs) on escalated or sensitive matters, as appropriate.
  • Advise leaders on policy interpretation, performance management, and corrective action, with a strong focus on consistency and risk mitigation.
  • Partner with Leaders and Talent Acquisition on workforce planning, recruiting strategies, and selection for key roles across North America stores.
  • Enable effective onboarding and orientation experiences that accelerate time to effectiveness and reinforce MillerKnoll culture from day one.
  • Identify capability gaps across the store population and partner with Talent & Learning COEs to deliver targeted development solutions, with a focus on general manager and leadership readiness.
  • Lead compensation planning for the HM/Knoll North America store population, including merit, commissions, and market reviews.
  • Support performance enablement processes by ensuring leaders are equipped to set clear expectations, deliver ongoing feedback, and conduct meaningful development conversations.
  • Leverage data and insights to inform workforce planning, succession strategies, and talent actions across the North America fleet.
  • Collaborate closely with DWR Store HR peers to ensure consistent application of people practices across Global Retail Stores.
  • Contribute to enterprise and retail specific HR initiatives that strengthen scalability, clarify ownership, and enhance the leader experience.
  • Dedicated HRBP ownership for the HM/Knoll North America store population.
  • Acts as a strategic extension of store leadership, balancing near term operational priorities with longer term capability and culture building.
  • Plays a key role in establishing and reinforcing a consistent HR point of view across the Global Retail Stores fleet.
