About The Position

The Human Factors Research Technician Contractor is an important member of the Human Factors team, responsible for supporting the planning, execution, and analysis of research aimed at understanding how users interact with our products. This hands-on role involves helping to conduct usability tests, home-use studies, and in-depth interviews, with a focus on precision, efficiency, and adherence to established protocols.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, human factors, engineering, health sciences, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of two years of professional experience assisting or leading user research, usability testing, or observational studies in a regulated or structured environment (e.g., medical device, clinical research, automotive, aerospace) required.
  • Ability to lead research activities under the direction of a human factors or research professional.
  • Ability to write and follow step by step study instructions, protocols, and procedures accurately and consistently.
  • Ability to moderate study sessions.
  • Willingness and aptitude to learn research methods, study workflows, and basic human factors concepts on the job.
  • Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with research participants, R&D engineers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks, schedules, and study sessions with minimal support and guidance.
  • Ability to follow through on responsibilities and communicate issues promptly.
  • Ability to record observations, notes, and study data clearly and accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail when completing forms, logs, and writing study documentation.
  • Ability to maintain and organize study records, research equipment, and study materials.
  • Competent in quantitative and qualitative data analysis methods.
  • Computer proficiency, including the ability to use Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to operate and handle research equipment (e.g., computers, tablets, cameras, microphones).
  • Ability to learn troubleshooting steps and configure study materials (e.g., digital and physical prototypes and production equivalent medical devices).

Responsibilities

  • Study-related responsibilities include preparing study materials, setting up testing environments, scheduling participant sessions, and providing participants with clear study instructions and training.
  • Throughout the study process, the technician actively engages with participants to ensure their comfort and compliance with study protocols.
  • The technician is responsible for collecting and summarizing research data that informs product design decisions.
  • Daily, the technician maintains research equipment, helps manage the testing lab, and ensures that study supplies are well-stocked.
