This position is a two-year appointment to develop a human-centered design (HCD) core for HDSI at the University of Chicago Medicine. This core will be leveraged by clinical and operational leaders as well as scholars to help solve high-priority healthcare delivery challenges through the application of a variety of design methods, including contextual inquiry, co-design, service design, rapid prototyping, and piloting. The role supports practice improvement and healthcare delivery science across the healthcare system, requiring collaboration with a wide range of clinician types (physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers), administrators, scholars, information technologists, equipment/device vendors, patients, caregivers, and other stakeholders. The ideal candidate is an early to mid-stage designer with a track record of working both independently and collaboratively, possessing excellent interpersonal, communication, and mentoring skills, and an interest in publishing and making presentations. The position aims to develop capacity for design services and build a program at a world-renowned academic healthcare system and will be mentored by a professor at Illinois Technology’s Institute of Design.
