About The Position

As a Customs Specialist at Kuehne+Nagel, your job is to optimise logistics to keep our global supply chains running smoothly. But the impact of your work goes beyond that. As HTS Classification Specialist you will play a critical role in ensuring our clients' products are accurately classified under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and their import operations remain compliant with applicable customs regulations. With your strong understanding of U.S. and global tariff classification principles, you will demonstrate product classification across various industries, and efficiently communicate with clients and regulatory bodies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Business, Supply Chain, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in customs classification, brokerage, or trade compliance
  • U.S. Customs Broker License required
  • In-depth knowledge of the HTSUS and General Rules of Interpretation (GRIs)
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with ability to interpret legal and technical documents
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and trade compliance systems (e.g., SAP GTS, Integration Point, MIC, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct accurate HTS classification of goods in accordance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and international customs laws, rulings, and regulations
  • Analyze technical product data, schematics, and specifications to determine proper tariff codes
  • Draft, review, and submit binding ruling requests to CBP, as needed
  • Provide advisory support to clients on classification impacts related to duty rates, free trade agreements, quotas, and other import compliance considerations
  • Maintain and update classification databases and audit records for client portfolios
  • Collaborate with internal compliance, legal, and trade operations teams to support broader customs and trade initiatives
  • Monitor and interpret regulatory updates, including HTS revisions, Explanatory Notes, and WCO classification decisions
  • Participate in classification audits and respond to CBP inquiries, CF-28s, and CF-29s, as required
