About The Position

Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards during construction activities. The role will focus on monitoring subcontractors, implementing safety procedures, and promoting a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily on-site safety supervision during demolition activities, construction of new concrete foundations, and equipment installation.
  • Observe contractor work practices to ensure compliance with applicable Safety Regulations, Environmental Regulations, and Company standards and best practices.
  • Verify correct use of required PPE (APIs) and safe work methods.
  • Support and conduct Contractor Safety Orientation.
  • Serve as the primary safety interface between Contractors and the VMUSA Safety Department.
  • Audit and maintain the Contractor Check-In / Check-Out Access Control Book to ensure accurate tracking of personnel on-site.
  • Ensure contractors follow VAM USA safety expectations, procedures, and site rules.
  • Provide support for Risk Assessments related to each project activity.
  • Support the development, review, and execution of JSAs (Job Safety Analyses).
  • Identify hazards, unsafe conditions, and unsafe behaviors, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Audit and verify proper implementation of the Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Program during project activities.
  • Ensure Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are available, accessible, and up to date for all chemicals used.
  • Verify compliance with environmental controls (waste management, spill prevention, housekeeping).
  • Participate in daily safety meetings / toolbox talks.
  • Address and close all safety concerns, observations, or deviations identified on the previous day.
  • Support safety behavior calibration and continuous improvement within the Contractors and project team.
  • Track and maintain project-related safety KPIs (incidents, near misses, observations, corrective actions).
  • Support incident reporting, investigation, and follow-up actions if required.
  • Provide regular safety status updates to project leadership and the Safety Department.
  • Continue safety oversight during commissioning phase.
  • Support the creation and standardization of safe operating procedures (SOPs) related to the installed equipment.
  • Provide guidance on safe operation practices and documentation requirements.
  • Manage and organize all safety-related project documentation, including Risk Assessments, JSAs, Permits, Training records, and Audit records.
