About The Position

The HSE Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that their plant has a highly functioning Safety program and for maintaining, updating, and continuously improving the facilities training program for compliance with federal safety regulations, state laws, and corporate policies.

  • Work closely with quality assurance, shipping personnel, and production supervisor.
  • Initiative, adaptability, and communication skills are necessary for success in this position.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or a non-U.S. citizen having legal status to reside and work in the U.S. for reasons other than practical training.
  • Regular, predictable, and full attendance is an essential function of the job.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred candidate will meet all the requirements for Safety Coordinator III and hold a bachelor’s degree in safety or other technically related field or 10+ years’ experience in a strictly safety related role.
  • Preference given to candidates holding OHST, ASP/GSP or CSP credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Within the company, the HSE Coordinator should have the ability to interpret corporate guidelines and turn them into actionable plans at their site.
  • They should also have the ability to ascertain trends in the safety culture that should be addressed from a plant level and suggest ideas for the corporate level.
  • Externally, the Safety Coordinator should be prepared to implement actions to maintain compliance with changing the Federal, State, and Local regulations.
  • Facilitate the plant safety program:
  • Conduct safety & OSHA training; manage the safety committee and its members
  • Audit the facility; make and implement recommendations.
  • Prepare and maintain OSHA recordkeeping requirements. Update and report new or developed changes to Corporate SHE/C Manager.
  • Assist in the development and oversee the Job Safety Analysis (JSA’s) program at the facility.
  • Communicate adherence to company policies, safety standards, and good housekeeping practices.
  • Manage the accident and injury investigation program by ensuring accidents are reported and investigated; lead minor investigations and help to ensure that major investigations are completed when necessary.
  • Communicate with Corporate SHE/C Manager and Plant Manager to ensure that plant performance is maintained in the areas of safety and workers compensation.
  • Assist in the management of workers’ compensation claims and transitional work program. Order and stock safety and first aid supplies.
  • Perform daily safety walkthrough of plant and ensure that unsafe conditions and work practices are addressed.
  • Assume additional responsibilities and perform special projects as needed or directed.
  • Review plant construction projects and provide input/oversight on those activities to ensure compliance with corporate guidelines.
  • Accountable for understanding and putting into practice the SHE principles.
  • Perform necessary environmental monitoring and improvements to maintain compliance with local permits and regulations.
  • Accountable for understanding and putting into practice the SHE Principles.
  • Perform training of individuals on safety rules and procedures to ensure compliance with corporate guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Compile and distribute plant-specific statistics to further enhance employee understanding of safety performance
  • Perform detailed root cause incident investigations, possibly at facilities other than assigned facility
  • Participate in Lean initiatives at assigned facility
  • Ability to meet all responsibilities of a SC II and III and the following:
  • Assist Corporate SHE/C Manager with corporate level projects.
  • Lead Safety Coordinator Team meetings on a periodic basis.
  • Lead Lean initiatives at assigned facility.
  • Conduct audits at sites other than their home site as needed to enhance safety awareness and improve safety practices.
  • Mentor new Safety Coordinators and ensure they are incorporated into the WL Safety Culture
  • Understand root cause analysis and advanced incident investigation techniques.
  • A thorough knowledge of relevant regulations, codes, and legislative requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as well as verbal, digital, and written communication skills.
  • An organized self-starter with high energy level.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate employees to improve processes and performance in health and safety.
  • Strong computer skills.
