About The Position

The HS Assistant Girls Basketball Coach will assist the Varsity Coach with the Girls Basketball Program. This role involves developing and training student-athletes for competitive basketball, monitoring, motivating, supervising, and mentoring them both on and off the court. The coach will instruct student-athletes in fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training to achieve individual and team success, while also guiding them in the formulation and enhancement of moral values, pride, acceptable social behavior, and self-confidence. Key responsibilities include fostering teamwork, sportsmanship, and skills development, managing game day strategies and logistics, and ensuring the safety and well-being of student-athletes. The coach must cooperate with the School Athletic Director and District Athletic Department, meet all requirements set forth by the District Board of Education, OHSAA, and ODE, and adhere to District Athletic Department Policies. The role also requires modeling expected behavior, maintaining suitable sideline conduct, accepting constructive criticism, implementing administrative policies, providing training rules, following due process procedures, participating in clinics and school events, ensuring team preparedness, and maintaining equipment inventory.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills associated with the sport
  • Evidence of a successful past coaching experience required
  • Provide satisfactory result of County Police Records Check, State BCII Check, and a FBI Fingerprint Background Check
  • Possess an Ohio Department of Education (ODE) Pupil Activity Permit (PAP)
  • Provide proof of completion of Coaches Tool Chest (CTC) Training/Certification

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Varsity Coach with the Girls Basketball Program
  • Develop and train student-athletes to play competitive Basketball
  • Monitor, motivate, supervise, and mentor student-athletics on and off the Court
  • Instruct/guide student-athletes in fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success
  • Instruct and guide student-athletes to lead them to the formulation and enhancement of moral values, pride of accomplishments, acceptable social behavior, and self-confidence
  • Foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and skills development
  • Manage game day strategies and logistics
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes
  • Cooperate, in a timely manner, with School Athletic Director and the District Athletic Department, in regard to requests for information that might be pertinent and/or periodically required
  • Meet all requirements set forth by the District Board of Education, The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), and The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) relative to the mandated Coaches Tool Chest (CTC) Training/Certification and the ODE Pupil Activity Permit (PAP)
  • Follow the District Athletic Department Policies as outlined in the Coaches Handbook and meet all criteria as outlined in the job description
  • Model the behavior expected of our student-athletes including timeliness to practices and games, being positive and enthusiastic, being respectful, and practicing constructive criticism while upholding the disciplines of the program
  • Maintain a suitable sideline conduct, including the use of appropriate language, at all times
  • Accept and profit from constructive criticism and suggestions for improving coaching performance
  • Recognize the need to be aware of and implement all applicable administrative polices set forth by the District Board of Education, Superintendents of Schools, School Principals, Conference Leagues, ODE, and OHSAA
  • Provide all applicable in-season training rules as well as any that may apply to out-of-season conduct to student-athletes prior to the start of the season
  • Follow appropriate due process procedures when violations occur
  • Participate in Clinics and other available programs to improve coaching performance
  • Participate in School events (i.e., Awards Night, Pep Assemblies, Athletic Boosters Meetings, etc.)
  • Ensure that team is well-prepared for opponents
  • Maintain accurate inventory of equipment and supplies
  • Additional responsibilities as needed
