About The Position

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district serving approximately 22,000 students with over 60 different languages spoken in their homes. KCKPS is home to Sumner Academy, ranked #6 highest rated High School in the Nation and #1 in Kansas by US News. The district includes Head Start/preschools, 28 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, and 5 college and career academies/high schools, making it the fifth largest district in Kansas. Its student population is approximately 56% Hispanic, 24% African American, 9% White, and 6% Asian. KCKPS employs approximately 4,000 individuals, including more than 1,800 teachers. The Assistant Football Coach is directly responsible to the head coach of the sport and is expected to exhibit total loyalty to the program, the head coach, and other assistants at all times. The assistant coach will be required to carry out all assignments given by the head coach.

Requirements

  • Certified teacher or must qualify for Rule 10 approval through the Kansas State High School Activities Association
  • Maintains communication with school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the educational needs of students
  • Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties
  • Performs other related work as required
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to read and analyze and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, general curriculum and learning theories, correspondence, and protocols
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community
  • Ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication

Responsibilities

  • Organize and direct coaching staff
  • Collect physical examination forms
  • Collect insurance release forms
  • Report injuries to school nurse
  • Take inventory and submit a list of equipment needs
  • Check out and collect all equipment
  • Keep accurate records and reports of lost or stolen equipment
  • Provide a roster of players
  • Provide the Athletic Director a list of athletes who are to receive awards at the end of the season and plan the awards ceremony
  • Insure proper team conduct on trips and during contests
  • Know all rules pertaining to his or her sport
  • Treat injuries or attend to athletes
  • Clean and Maintenance of equipment and uniforms
  • Organize practice sessions
