About The Position

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district serving approximately 22,000 students with over 60 different languages spoken in their homes. KCKPS is the fifth largest district in Kansas, employing around 4,000 individuals, including more than 1,800 teachers. The job goal for the Assistant Coach is to be directly responsible to the head coach of a sport, exhibiting total loyalty to the program, the head coach, and other assistants, and carrying out all assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Certified teacher or must qualify for Rule 10 approval through the Kansas State High School Activities Association
  • Maintains communication with school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the educational needs of students
  • Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to read and analyze and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, general curriculum and learning theories, correspondence, and protocols
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community
  • Ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication

Responsibilities

  • Assist the head coach as directed with organizing and directing coaching staff
  • Assist the head coach as directed with collecting physical examination forms
  • Assist the head coach as directed with collecting insurance release forms
  • Assist the head coach as directed with reporting injuries to school nurse
  • Assist the head coach as directed with taking inventory and submitting a list of equipment needs
  • Assist the head coach as directed with checking out and collecting all equipment
  • Assist the head coach as directed with keeping accurate records and reports of lost or stolen equipment
  • Assist the head coach as directed with providing a roster of players
  • Assist the head coach as directed with providing the Athletic Director a list of athletes who are to receive awards at the end of the season and plan the awards ceremony
  • Assist the head coach as directed with insuring proper team conduct on trips and during contests
  • Assist the head coach as directed with knowing all rules pertaining to his or her sport
  • Assist the head coach as directed with treating of injuries or attending to athletes
  • Assist the head coach as directed with cleaning and maintenance of equipment and uniforms
  • Assist the head coach as directed with organizing practice sessions
