This is an on-site position located at our Virginia Beach, VA location. The HR & Payroll Specialist supports our ASO client base in ensuring smooth and efficient HR operations. This role will be responsible for handling day-to-day HR administrative tasks including employee onboarding and offboarding, benefits administration, and payroll processing. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of HR practices, excellent organizational skills, and a high level of confidentiality.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in HR administration or a related role.
  • Familiarity with HRIS systems and payroll platforms.
  • Solid understanding of HR practices, labor laws, and payroll principles.
  • Strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all pre-employment activities including background checks, documentation, and new hire orientation.
  • Prepare and process new hire paperwork and ensure accurate setup in HR systems.
  • Conduct onboarding sessions to familiarize new hires with company policies, benefits, and procedures.
  • Manage the offboarding process, including exit interviews, termination documentation, and final pay coordination.
  • Serve as a point of contact for employee benefits inquiries, providing guidance and resolving issues.
  • Enroll, update, and terminate employees in benefit programs (health, dental, vision, 401(k), etc.).
  • Liaise with benefit vendors and brokers to ensure accurate and timely processing.
  • Assist in annual benefits open enrollment and employee communications.
  • Collect and process employee time and attendance records for payroll.
  • Coordinate with Finance/Payroll providers to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing.
  • Verify payroll data including bonuses, deductions, and leaves.
  • Maintain up-to-date employee records in HRIS and ensure compliance with payroll and tax regulations.
  • Maintain and update employee records in HRIS and personnel files.
  • Support compliance with local, state, and federal labor laws.
  • Assist with HR reporting and audits as required.
  • Help coordinate employee engagement and training initiatives.
