About The Position

At Ascend Staffing, our Human Resources Generalist is more than just a role — it’s an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our company culture and success. As a key member of our HR team, the HR Generalist serves as a cornerstone of both departmental and organizational operations. This position performs a broad range of essential HR functions including reporting, onboarding and offboarding, internal employee payroll, benefits administration, compliance, and employee relations. The HR Generalist provides daily support to the HR Manager, assists internal employees across multiple locations, and plays a critical role in enhancing the overall employee experience while ensuring operational excellence. This is a direct hire position based at our corporate office in North Salt Lake.

Requirements

  • Must possess a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • At least 1–2 years of experience in a Human Resources role, with 1 year of payroll experience required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); HRIS experience preferred (Paylocity, ADP, Paycom, or similar).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to engage professionally at all organizational levels.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Analytical thinker with intermediate math and Excel skills for financial and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of employment laws and regulations (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEOC, etc.) and willingness to research and apply as needed.
  • Demonstrated discretion with confidential information and commitment to data privacy.
  • Self-starter with initiative, follow-through, and minimal supervision needed.
  • Team player with a collaborative spirit and a focus on maintaining a positive work environment.
  • Must be willing to occasionally travel as needed.
  • Must be proactive and quick to learn new systems.
  • Emotional intelligence and the ability to build trust across all levels.

Nice To Haves

  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or related HR certification (preferred but not required).

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in department meetings, offering valuable insights and maintaining a proactive, solution-oriented attitude.
  • Handle internal payroll functions, including preparation of reports, calculation of bonuses, and consistent monitoring of deductions (insurance, 401(k), garnishments, etc.) with strict confidentiality.
  • Provide confidential administrative support to management and staff, including drafting documents, correspondence, and managing communications.
  • Submit weekly and bi-weekly new hire and verification reports to internal and external systems.
  • Gain knowledge of Ascend’s health and wellness benefits and assist in facilitating the annual open enrollment process.
  • Reconcile and process bills related to H.S.A. accounts and 401(k) contributions with strong attention to financial accuracy.
  • Support branch office HR inquiries, including research and internal investigations, ensuring timely and professional resolution.
  • Schedule and conduct stay and exit interviews, building and maintaining positive relationships with employees.
  • Collaborate with the HR Manager on semi-monthly payroll and bonus processing.
  • Perform additional projects and administrative tasks as assigned by the HR team.
