Essential Job Summary: The HR Generalist is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources function by providing expertise across key areas such as employee relations, recruitment, performance management, compliance, workforce planning, and HR administration. This role is a trusted advisor to employees and managers, ensuring HR programs are delivered effectively, consistently, and in alignment with organizational policies and goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field.
  • 2-4 years of Human Resources or related experience required.
  • Knowledge of labor law, compliance, and workforce best practices.
  • Attention to detail and proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical ability with skill in data-driven decision-making.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office (Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint, in particular).
  • Strong discretion and judgment when handling confidential employee matters.
  • Ability to regularly travel within market region as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the first point of contact for employee inquiries, providing guidance on HR policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Responsible for partnering with managers on employee relations issues, recommending corrective action, and ensuring compliance with legal and workplace policy requirements.
  • Conduct and independently lead employee relations and ethics hotline investigations & gather statements, prepare findings, and recommend outcomes to leaders.
  • Interpret HR policies and be familiar with employment laws as necessary to guide decision-making.
  • Partner with leaders to support workforce planning, staffing needs, and future talent strategies to fill open requisitions and develop succession planning.
  • Manage compliance with federal, state, and local labor regulations, including documentation, recordkeeping, reporting, and policy alignment.
  • Analyze HR metrics and trends and recommend improvements in workflow, retention, & performance.
  • Support union environments by advising on contract interpretation, processing grievances, and ensuring compliance with bargaining agreements.
  • Assist in development, revision, and implementation of HR policies, handbooks, and processes.
  • Independently evaluate and resolve employee relations, benefits, and payroll matters, consulting with HR subject matter experts as necessary.
  • Maintain and update employee-facing HR materials, organizational charts, and policies.
  • Complete employee transactions, ensuring that the HRIS system is up to date and remains accurate.
  • Manage employee onboarding class schedule and process to ensure assimilation of new hires into IWS culture and administer orientation and onboarding.
  • Manage field and annual compliance training.
  • Participate in and provide ongoing support to HR initiatives and special projects based on the needs of the team and business.
