About The Position

The Human Resources Generalist is the primary point of contact for general staff inquiries and will participate in the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including, but not limited to, recruitment, benefits and leave administration, employee injury and worker's compensation claims, and enforcement of company policies and practices. This position will also be cross trained and serve as a back-up for payroll processing. This is a 32 hour per week in-person position based at the Chesapeake worksite.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, accounting, business or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 2-3 years of previous experience in a similar or related HR position that includes the use of HRIS, ATS, and payroll systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with problem solving skills and critical thinking.
  • Ability to operate general office equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software and web navigation.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must maintain a high level of integrity, confidentiality, ethical standards – assumes personal responsibility for scope of position.
  • Reliable and consistent transportation and attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as point of contact for general employee inquiries and requests related to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Provides guidance and support on employee relations matters, including conflict resolution, coaching, performance issues, and disciplinary actions.
  • Facilitates performance management by ensuring performance reviews and disciplinary actions are administered within Company guidelines and recorded in personnel files.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations as needed.
  • Maintains accurate records of active job openings and received applications; manages internal and external job postings.
  • Helps facilitate the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Completes employment verification requests.
  • Oversees and participates with management to ensure the off-boarding process is complete and thorough.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, knowledge of federal and state labor law including worker's compensation, workplace safety, EEOC, NLRB, and FLSA; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law and makes recommendations to the Chief Human Resources Officer as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.
