Position Summary: This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit to strengthen the community. The Director manages the HR functions for the Central Lincoln County (CLC) and Boothbay Region YMCAs.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in human resources, with at least 2 years at a management level including direct supervision of employees. HR Certification preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Team player, with superb interpersonal skills. An ability to partner with co-workers and work with the public in a positive and friendly manner and resolve conflicts as needed.
  • Self-starter with the ability to multi-task, lead others, work independently, and adapt to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment.
  • General computer skills with the ability to effectively learn and use new software.
  • Thorough knowledge of HR functions including employee engagement/workplace culture, position classification, compensation, benefits administration, recruitment, selection, training, HR compliance, and employee relations; working knowledge of risk management and safety practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of state and federal employment law.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record with access to personal vehicle preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR Management or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and closely related work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the CEO, Director of Operations, and other directors to promote healthy living, social responsibility and youth development. Serves as a role model for staff, participants, & the community.
  • Actively participates in Ys strategic plan development and execution with CEO, Director of Operations and other directors. Serves on committees and task forces. Adheres to all policies and standards.
  • Works with the CEO and Finance department to develop and manage a responsible budget and provide monthly feedback for any material variances.
  • Manages comprehensive HR function; advises CEO, Director of Operations & other directors on HR policies & practices to support the Y's strategic success. Designs and implements HR policies in compliance with employment laws, rules, and regulations. Updates and communicates personnel policies, providing interpretation to staff to ensure consistent and equitable process for personnel decisions. Initiates, designs, and manages HR projects as needed.
  • Supports CEO, directors, and staff on employee issues, recruitment, job descriptions, hiring, termination, and succession planning to ensure the Y's compliance with laws, rules, and regulations. Executes compensation and benefits programs, payroll, and maintains records and related systems. Provides HR reports in support of grant application and monitoring requirements.
  • Manages position classification, job description, and compensation processes to ensure the Y's practices are appropriate and fair. Recommends and implements annual pay structure revisions; approves individual pay actions, job descriptions/titles, and position classifications.
  • Reviews employee benefit offerings annually; works with vendors to recommend changes; administers open enrollment and maintains employee benefit programs; informs and educates employees on benefit offerings; manages data submissions to employee benefit providers.
  • Administers the performance evaluation program, which includes pro-active performance appraisals, employee skills identification, opportunities for skills enhancement, career and succession planning.
  • Advises CEO and supervisors on recruiting, hiring, training, developing, and managing staff. Facilitates annual and ad hoc HR training to staff in collaboration with management.
  • Manages a comprehensive onboarding process for new hires. Ensures that all promotions, transfers, staff reductions, and other employment status changes are administered in accordance with laws and Y policy. Performs candidate and volunteer background checks.
  • Partners with Finance to oversee and ensure accuracy of Paylocity payroll & HR system; manages data entry and accuracy of employee changes, payroll/benefits administration, and paid time off (PTO) / earned paid leave (EPL).
  • Manages employee absences under federal/state FMLA regulations and disability insurance; completes the required paperwork and communicates with the employees and their supervisors.
  • Manages workers' compensation and unemployment claims, protecting both the interests of employees and the Y. Investigates accidents and prepares reports for insurance carrier; files first reports of injury; follows up on claims. Manages workers compensation audit.
  • Works with CEOs to continually enhance the workplace culture and overall employee job satisfaction; measures and monitors general employee morale and job satisfaction and works with CEOs to develop and implement action plans for improvement; advises CEO on problem resolution; maintains “open door” policy and responds to employee questions/concerns or refers to others for further assistance.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with staff, volunteers, participants, and community partners and connects participants to the YMCA.
  • Participates in YMCA fundraising efforts, including the annual fundraisers to support mission-based programs and applies for grant opportunities. Facilitates grant process including research, proposal creation, submission, tracking, and reporting to funders as needed.
  • As a Mandated Reporter, recognizes signs of abuse or neglect and reports to supervisor and the appropriate authorities.
  • Oversees department's administrative tasks, including tracking staff training/policy deliverables and updating holiday schedules and employee bulletin boards. Maintains personnel records for all employees in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Performs other tasks and projects as assigned.
