MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The Director, Human Resources serves as the senior human resources executive for Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center and is responsible for leading all aspects of the medical center’s people, culture, and workforce strategy. This role provides strategic leadership across talent acquisition, labor and employee relations, total rewards, organizational development, workforce training, compliance, and employee engagement in a highly regulated California healthcare environment. The Director is a key member of the executive leadership team and serves as a trusted advisor to the CEO and medical center leadership team. This role is critical to stabilizing and strengthening the organization’s workforce, improving employee experience and retention, ensuring regulatory compliance, and aligning people practices with operational and clinical priorities. The Director leads the development of a just, accountable, and inclusive culture while modernizing HR infrastructure, strengthening leadership capability, and restoring trust across the organization.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field.
Deep knowledge of California employment law, labor relations, and healthcare compliance requirements.
Demonstrated experience across the full spectrum of HR functions.
Proven ability to lead in complex, high-change healthcare environments.
Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
Demonstrated ability to build consensus, solve complex problems, and drive execution.
Visible, hands-on leadership style with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of the organization.
Current Los Angeles County Fire Card required (within 30 days of hire)
Assault Response Competency (ARC) required (within 30 days of hire)

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in Human Resources or a related field.
Experience supporting organizational stabilization, turnaround, or cultural transformation in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities

Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and executive leadership team on workforce strategy, organizational effectiveness, culture, and change management.
Translate medical center strategic and operational priorities into aligned people strategies that support quality care, financial sustainability, and workforce stability.
Provide executive leadership during periods of organizational change, leadership transition, and operational improvement.
Represent Human Resources in executive meetings, governing bodies, and external forums as appropriate.
Oversee all facets of Human Resources operations, including: Talent acquisition and workforce planning Compensation, benefits, and total rewards Employee and labor relations HRIS and workforce data management Training, learning, and development
Ensure HR policies, procedures, and practices are compliant with federal, state, and local employment laws and healthcare regulations.
Establish clear, consistent, and fair HR practices across the organization.
Provide executive oversight of labor relations in a unionized California healthcare environment.
Ensure compliance with California wage and hour laws, labor agreements, pay practices, working conditions, record-keeping, and regulatory requirements.
Serve as a senior resource on complex employee relations matters, investigations, corrective action, and risk mitigation.
Develop and execute strategies to improve employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention.
Lead leadership development and succession planning efforts to strengthen management capability and continuity.
Build and sustain a values-aligned culture rooted in accountability, respect, equity, and transparency.
Champion Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives across all levels of the organization.
Lead HRIS optimization and data integrity efforts to support accurate workforce reporting and analytics.
Develop HR dashboards, metrics, and insights to inform executive decision-making and track workforce trends.
Use data to identify risks, opportunities, and improvement areas related to turnover, engagement, staffing, and compliance.
Build, coach, and retain a high-performing HR leadership team.
Maintain a visible leadership presence across the hospital, engaging regularly with leaders, clinicians, and staff.
Establish credibility and trust through accessibility, follow-through, and consistent communication.
Provide executive oversight of Workforce Training & Development programs.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of medical center objectives.
