About The Position

The Human Resources (HR) Coordinator plays a key role in supporting The Road Home’s hiring and onboarding processes. Acting as a primary point of contact for prospective employees and hiring managers, this position helps ensure a smooth, welcoming, and inclusive experience for all new team members. The HR Coordinator is responsible for coordinating new hire onboarding, maintaining accurate personnel records, and facilitating clear communication with internal and external stakeholders. This role works collaboratively with the HR team to support organizational goals and uphold The Road Home’s commitment to compassionate, trauma-informed, and equitable practices.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; an associate or bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience working in a general office or administrative setting is required; prior human resources experience is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of employee benefits, employment laws, and HR best practices is preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse and/or vulnerable populations is preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Ability to manage difficult situations with professionalism, empathy, and a trauma-informed approach.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and use sound judgment.
  • Strong writing skills for professional correspondence and documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative team member with a supportive attitude and willingness to assist colleagues.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations.

  • Have strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel; willingness and ability to learn HRIS platforms and other internal systems.
  • Ability to accept supervision, direction, and feedback with openness.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with clients, coworkers, and supervisors using verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy items up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and move for at least an hour at a time or more.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key liaison between hiring managers and prospective employees, ensuring a smooth, welcoming, and inclusive onboarding experience.
  • Coordinate all pre-hire screening steps once a job offer has been extended, in accordance with agency policies and grant requirements.
  • Communicate respectfully and inclusively with candidates from diverse backgrounds and abilities, offering creative and flexible options for completing interviews, paperwork, and screening tasks.
  • Maintain consistent communication with candidates using applicant tracking systems (ATS), HRIS platforms, and preferred contact methods (e.g., phone, email, text).
  • Schedule and facilitate required pre-employment checks, including background screenings, drug tests, and other compliance processes.
  • Learn and apply shelter licensing requirements; assist candidates with fingerprinting, background checks, and other regulatory steps.
  • Prepare materials for bi-weekly new hire orientations and actively support orientation facilitation.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of I-9 forms and other required documentation; oversee the collection and verification of identification and employment eligibility records.
  • Create, organize, and maintain personnel files in compliance with agency standards, state and federal regulations, and best HR practices.
  • Prepare and issue ID badges for new hires.
  • Provide responsive and professional HR customer service by addressing employee inquiries in a timely and supportive manner.
  • Monitor and respond to HR team communications, ensuring prompt follow-up, documentation, and resolution of requests.
  • Utilize HRIS and internal systems to maintain accurate employee data, track onboarding progress, and support efficient HR workflows.
  • Coordinate and schedule meetings, interviews, and HR-related appointments.
  • Manage post-termination administrative tasks, including completing required documentation and updating internal systems.
  • Prepare and organize personnel records for internal audits and external grant monitoring.
  • Collaborate with HR team members on department initiatives, special projects, and process improvements.
  • Actively seek opportunities to expand HR knowledge and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Participate in and support agency activities, events, and assignments that further organizational goals.
  • Interact with peers, clients, volunteers, visitors, and community partners in a kind, respectful, and professional manner.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the agency’s mission, values, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with colleagues across the organization.
  • Incorporate new skills and training into daily responsibilities and share relevant information with teammates.
  • Attend mandatory agency trainings, including Trauma-Informed Care, Housing Focused, De-escalation, Suicide Prevention, CPR, and more.
  • Participate in emergency drills and environmental safety activities, as required.
  • Follow all agency protocols for security, safety, and sanitation to maintain a clean and secure environment for guests and staff.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance as an essential function of this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.
