About The Position

The HR Business Partner is responsible for implementing and supporting the People Strategy for H&B Defence, ensuring alignment of people practices across the joint venture and shareholder entities. Working closely with the Chief People Officer, the role enables the delivery of strategic and operational HR plans, oversees HR projects and calendar activities, and ensures the people elements of the Babcock employee lifecycle are completed with consistency and care. You will act as a trusted advisor to H&B leadership, providing insight on workforce planning, talent risks and organisational design while ensuring secondee arrangements are effectively managed and aligned with business goals. The role requires the ability to translate HR strategy into practical guidance for leaders and employees, support capability development across the organisation, and use data and insights to inform decision‑making. You will partner with leaders to resolve employment matters, liaise with shareholder HR teams on secondee compensation and progression, and lead initiatives that strengthen collaboration, engagement and wellbeing across diverse teams. The role also involves interpreting employment legislation and industrial instruments, supporting employee and industrial relations matters, and applying structured change management methodologies to guide the organisation through transformation. A commitment to continuous improvement is essential, as you will identify and lead opportunities to enhance HR processes and organisational effectiveness. You will actively contribute to a safe working environment, model H&B Defence values, and promote a culture of accountability, respect, excellence, safety and care for one another. The role also supports Trade Control compliance by embedding best‑practice behaviours and ensuring obligations are understood and met. Some intrastate, interstate and overseas travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in interpreting legislation, Awards, industrial agreements and organisational policy to provide pragmatic, high‑quality HR advice
  • Experience supporting leaders through performance, conduct and grievance matters
  • Confidence navigating complex stakeholder environments with professionalism and emotional intelligence
  • Solid understanding of the broader HR functional areas
  • Strong analytical, research and problem‑solving capability
  • Communication and consulting skills to build trusted relationships at all levels
  • Organisational skills to balance competing priorities while maintaining attention to detail
  • Model the values and commitments of H&B Defence, demonstrating integrity, respect, accountability, safety, excellence and care in every interaction
