We are seeking an HQ Security Specialist to support Army Futures Command (AFC) Headquarters security operations in Austin, Texas. This position applies broad expertise across multiple security disciplines—Personnel, Information, Physical, Industrial, and Classification Management—to help develop, enforce, analyze, and interpret security policies under the guidance and direction of the AFC HQ Command Security Manager and Special Security Officer (SSO). The HQ Security Specialist ensures security programs and processes are effective in protecting classified and sensitive but unclassified information and supports Special Security functions related to SCI in accordance with applicable guidance and contract deliverables (CDRL A005 & A008, and others as noted).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Security Studies, or a related field
  • Substitution: Additional five (5) years of job-related experience may be substituted for the education requirement.
  • Minimum six (6) years of relevant experience supporting DoD/Army security functions across one or more security disciplines.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience supporting SSO/SSR functions and SCI administrative processes (e.g., VARs, indoctrinations, access validations)
  • Experience supporting SCIF operations, accreditation packages, IDS testing, access control rosters, and self-inspections
  • Strong briefing and training facilitation skills
  • Experience with security management databases and electronic recordkeeping for access and incident tracking
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion

Responsibilities

  • Apply broad security knowledge across disciplines (PERSEC, INFOSEC, PHYSEC, INDSEC, OPSEC, classification management) to support AFC HQ security policy development and execution under Command Security Manager/SSO direction.
  • Ensure all security discipline programs (e.g., INFOSEC, INDSEC, PERSEC, OPSEC) are adequate to protect classified and sensitive information in accordance with AFC HQ protection benchmarks (IAW CDRL A005 & A008).
  • Maintain working knowledge of DoD security policies, programs, and procedures related to Industrial, Personnel, Information, and Physical Security.
  • Serve as a Special Security Representative (SSR) under the supervision of the AFC HQ SSO, supporting SCI-related functions such as: Visit Authorization Requests (VARs) Indoctrination assistance coordination Routing JWICS 2875 forms
  • Provide personnel security support, including background check assistance, clearance processing, and security access validation.
  • Conduct security training sessions and workshops to ensure AFC personnel awareness and compliance; assist in developing and updating Security Classification/Declassification Guides.
  • Participate in security working groups, DoD security briefings, and interagency security coordination meetings (IAW A001, A006).
  • Support the command SSO/SSR by processing personnel background investigations for special security clearance actions; receive/validate incoming clearances/accesses; pass clearances and SCI accesses; and prepare VARs and Permanent Certifications.
  • Maintain electronic records in security management databases, tracking: Personnel access Security violations Clearance investigations
  • Assist with collateral and higher access processes and badge procedures.
  • Manage security incident reporting, ensuring investigations are conducted, findings documented, and mitigation strategies implemented (IAW A005, A008, B003 & C001).
  • Review/process foreign travel and foreign contact requests; verify/vet foreign visitors; recommend, implement, and monitor compliance with special security policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate, develop, and implement SCIF Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Emergency Plans (EP), including preparation of SCIF documentation required for accreditation.
  • Ensure SCIF integrity through alarm monitoring, access control management, and auditing; maintain access codes, spin-dial combinations, IDS codes, and keys for SCI facilities/doors.
  • Under SSO direction, coordinate with stakeholders for SCIF accreditation/certification for classified IT and execute required compliance activities including: Semi-annual and annual IDS testing USA-directed Security Reviews Annual self-inspections SOP/EP reviews and EP testing Maintaining SCIF access processes, rosters, and co-utilization authorizations (with SSO oversight)
  • Maintain accounts, tokens, and access for Army Information Systems required by the organization, including but not limited to: NIPRNet SIPRNet JWICS (where available/accessible)
