As part of the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) Operations team and under the supervision of the Manager of Controlled Environment Plant-growth Systems, the Greenhouse Coordinator manages the operations of the Howlett Greenhouse and growth chambers; The Howlett Greenhouse Coordinator schedules space use for teaching, research, and extension projects in the greenhouse and growth chambers; Records space use and material use and submits for routine billing; Programs and monitors environmental control systems in the greenhouse and growth chambers; Monitors greenhouse environment from home via computer link and troubleshoots as necessary; Maintains effective communications with co-workers, faculty/staff/students greenhouse users and the general public; Performs regular, routine cleaning and sanitation tasks in the greenhouse and headhouse to maintain a clean, safe, functional workspace for facility users: Maintains and facilitates repair of all components of the greenhouse climate control systems including environmental sensors, heating and cooling systems, lighting systems, and structural maintenance; Submits Service 2 Facilities requests for assistance from OSU FOD as needed to address problems with building repair and maintenance; Performs routine maintenance and repair of growth chambers; Provides operational support for the hoop houses, high tunnels, and container pad/nurseries on the Columbus campus; Implements an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program that is compatible with individual project objectives; Obtains and maintains pesticide applicators license; Scouts plants for pests and diseases; Consults with greenhouse users for the best application method for pest and or disease management; As part of the IPM program identifies and applies chemical, biological, and cultural treatments to address pest problems and maintains documentation of applications; Advises faculty, staff and students on design and installation of research projects; Assists with limited plant harvest and records data; Prepares equipment and materials for undergraduate labs; Operates power equipment; Purchases supplies, materials, and equipment for the Howlett Greenhouse; Supervises, schedules and trains greenhouse student employees; Works as part of an interdisciplinary team to provides support and assistance to other CFAES unit managers, including but not limited to horticulture and specialty crop areas, environmental and natural resources, grounds and turfgrass, Olentangy River Wetlands facility, Chadwick Arboretum and Learning Gardens; Other duties as assigned.
