About The Position

The Housing Specialist is responsible for the coordination and delivery of housing stabilization and case management services under the Housing Our Heroes program, serving up to 30 veterans annually. This role focuses on rapid housing placement, short-term stabilization, and ongoing engagement to ensure housing retention. The position requires strong housing navigation skills, the ability to coordinate financial assistance, and collaboration with veteran-serving systems including Coordinated Entry and the Veterans Administration. The Housing Specialist must operate with a high level of autonomy while ensuring compliance with funder requirements and meeting performance targets within required timeframes.

Requirements

  • Minimum of some college-level coursework in a related field required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in homelessness/ housing services.
  • Knowledge and support of the veteran community
  • Ability to interact professionally with staff and community partners.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented; ability to meet deadlines and complete work assignments successfully.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task as needed.
  • Ability to problem-solve and/or act as mediator.
  • Experience with Housing Stabilization Case Management
  • Development/maintenance of Excel spreadsheets.
  • Some experience with budgeting.
  • Must have a valid Florida driver’s license, valid insurance, reliable transportation for travel to outlying locations and the ability to be insured under the company’s vehicle insurance policy.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized, housing-focused case management to veterans for up to 6 months of stabilization services.
  • Conduct comprehensive intake, assessment, and development of individualized housing and service plans.
  • Maintain consistent engagement with participants, including home visits and community-based meetings.
  • Monitor participant progress and adjust service plans to address barriers to housing stability.
  • May be required to provide intensive case management services for participants with higher acuity needs.
  • Identify and secure housing opportunities that meet Fair Market Rent and program guidelines.
  • Assist participants with housing applications, documentation, and unit selection.
  • Coordinate all aspects of lease-up including inspections, rent reasonableness, and lease execution.
  • Build and maintain relationships with landlords and property managers.
  • Mediate landlord-tenant concerns to support housing retention.
  • Determine eligibility for financial assistance.
  • Coordinate payments for rent and deposits.
  • Negotiate rental terms when appropriate.
  • Ensure all assistance is documented and compliant with funder requirements.
  • Coordinate with VA, Coordinated Entry, and veteran-serving agencies.
  • Participate in case conferencing and referral processes.
  • Provide culturally competent, trauma-informed services.
  • Support access to benefits, healthcare, and employment.
  • Plan and execute veterans’ food distribution events.
  • Develop partnerships with community organizations.
  • Represent the organization at external events.
  • Support outreach and participant engagement.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in HMIS/ClientTrack.
  • Ensure compliance with program requirements.
  • Track performance outcomes.
  • Provide updates to leadership and funders.
  • Maintain an active caseload and ensure timely housing placement.
  • Meet quarterly performance targets per grant requirements
  • Ensure efficient use of program funds.
  • Address barriers to program performance
  • May be required to complete necessary reporting per grant/ contract guidelines
  • Oversee and manage an assigned caseload with a high level of autonomy and accountability.
  • Conduct participant meetings in home and community settings as required.
  • Maintain consistent communication with participants, landlords, and partners.
  • Ensure timely execution of services and supports to meet program goals.
  • Provide weekly updates to funders as required by the grant(s)
  • Attend HHA and/or COC meetings as assigned.
  • Provides feedback and input during meetings.
  • Provide assistance with other general department activities as assigned and directed.
  • Demonstrate by words and actions a commitment to the Gulfstream Goodwill mission to help people with disabilities and other barriers to become self-sufficient, contributing members of the community.
  • Perform or assist with any duties or operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements.
  • Maintain safe work area and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules, keeping work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Participate in any variety of meetings and task force groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, and policies.
