About The Position

Community Action is seeking two dedicated and compassionate Housing Navigators to join our team. In this role, you will be the bridge between individuals experiencing homelessness and the permanent housing they deserve. Using a trauma-informed and person-centered approach, you will empower families to overcome barriers, navigate complex systems, and achieve long-term stability.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with at least one year of social services experience, including maintaining accurate files and coordinating services with other agencies. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Basic proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software (MS Word, Excel).
  • Proven ability to manage multiple competing tasks and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable with public speaking.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish trusting, professional relationships with clients and staff from diverse, marginalized, vulnerable, and/or low-income populations.
  • Ability to set and maintain positive and professional boundaries.
  • Requires reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and valid insurance coverage for a private vehicle.
  • Ability to obtain RentWell Instructor certification within 90 days of hire (we provide the training).

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English (both oral and written) or another language reflecting the current Washington County population.
  • Experience in social service programs serving low-income individuals in Washington County.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload assigned by Coordinated Entry, assessing needs and developing individualized housing plans.
  • Assist households with housing searches, applications, and the appeals process.
  • Help clients secure necessary documentation and mitigate issues like credit reports, utility arrears, or unfavorable landlord references.
  • Explain lease agreements, assist with furniture acquisition, and provide move-in essentials to ensure a smooth transition.
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with public and private sector landlords to secure housing opportunities.
  • Act as a liaison between landlords and tenants to resolve issues and ensure housing retention.
  • Teach tenant education classes (RentWell) and curriculum to low-income households.
  • Establish and manage rental assistance plans, ensuring compliance with program guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate and timely entries in the HMIS (Homeless Management Information System) database.
  • Meet clients where they are-whether at shelters, drop-in centers, or unsheltered locations-to facilitate housing plans.
