About The Position

The Housing Navigator will have a caseload of dual-enrolled veterans who are also enrolled in the HUD-VASH (Housing and Urban Development, Veteran’s Affairs Supportive Housing) program. The Housing Navigator will actively work with both the HAV team and the HUD-VASH team. The Housing Navigator will focus on providing financial assistance to enable Veteran families to obtain permanent housing. The Housing Navigator will establish and maintain relationships with landlords that facilitate the ability of assigned veterans to gain and maintain permanent housing. The Housing Navigator will represent Rocky Mountain Human Services and the HAV program, ensuring that housing providers understand both their responsibilities and the responsibilities of RMHS and our clients under the VA’s Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) guidelines. This role will serve both the Denver and the Colorado Springs area and will require travel throughout the area.

  • Attends in-services, staffing, and other meetings with supervisor’s approval. May be appointed to committees.
  • Participates in agency and community planning and education.
  • Develops and maintains records, plans, and reports.
  • Sit, stand, and walk for reasonable periods of time.
  • Maintains prompt and regular attendance.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
  • Ability to drive personal and company vehicle.
  • Either a Bachelor’s degree (preferably in communication, public relations, marketing, social work, or related field) OR 4 years of equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with direct service to vulnerable populations.
  • Ability to work independently while meeting work deadlines and program standards.
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.

  • No major violations in the past three years.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Military Service
  • Prior experience providing supportive services for clients who are either homeless or in danger of homelessness.
  • Experience working with military and/or Veteran populations
  • Prior experience working with private housing providers/landlords/housing management.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the HUD-VASH team to facilitate the search, application and entry into permanent housing for HAV client households.
  • Maintain minimum of two contacts per month with the HUD-VASH staff members and Veteran regarding permanent housing plan and progress.
  • Provide and track financial assistance for housing applications, security deposits, emergency housing assistance, tenant incentives, and other services as allowed by the SSVF grant.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Program Manager.
