About The Position

Housing Navigator Summary: The Housing Navigator is responsible for securing housing (apartment units, condos, single-family homes, townhouses, etc.) for new residents and internal moves, developing relationships with local housing providers, and engaging property managers in housing retention efforts. First Shift Monday - Friday Reports To: Supportive Housing Supervisor Responsibilities: (to be performed with or without reasonable accommodation): Operates within the DuPagePads Code of Ethics and Core Values, which support providing care in accordance with the Trauma-Informed Policy and Practices of the Agency. Outreach to community, business owners, realtors, property owners, property managers, housing developers and other service providers to identify new and existing leasing opportunities and build strong relationships to better assist residents in accessing and sustaining stable housing. Maintain a Housing Directory which should at minimum include documentation of all contacts with housing providers including corporation name if applicable, name of contact, address, phone, date of contact and results of contact. Sustain property management relationships and address needs to ensure continued partnership on behalf of residents. Provide housing availability to the agency’s interdepartmental housing team in an efficient and timely manner. Connect with agency departments regarding resident housing needs. Assist individuals and families as needed during their move into housing. Such assistance may include viewing of potential apartments, organizing furnishings, coordinating movers, and providing transportation. Coordinate initial leases with executive leadership and accounting team; set up utilities to be billed to DuPagePads. Maintain current housing contacts and other pertinent information in accordance with agency and best standard practice. Coordinate move-out procedures and turnover of leased units for new occupants which may include arranging for item removal, cleaning, and repairs. Research housing topics, collect and organize housing information for staff. Participate in staff meetings and trainings as directed by supervisor. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Ability to handle and work with resident and agency sensitive confidential information/data.
  • Excellent engagement skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience working with people with disabilities, serious mental illness, individuals of various ethnicities, socio-economic, LGBTQIA+, and social backgrounds; demonstrates cultural sensitivity.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office Suite products (Access, Excel, Word) as required.
  • Ability to work independently and work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks, and to meet deadlines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, or related field preferred, or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong customer service focus.
  • Provide own transportation.
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds.

  • Experience in issues related to homelessness preferred.
