About The Position

Assisting veterans and their families with finding affordable, safe, and stable permanent housing in the community within the Bringing Veterans Home (BVH) Program. The catchment area that this position covers involve the following counties: Hunterdon, Morris, Somerset, Sussex, Warren.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Mental Health, Human Services, or a related discipline.
  • 3 years administrative experience in a human service or related setting.
  • Knowledge of veterans’ issues, mental illness, addiction, and PTSD.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license; NJ Driver’s license in good standing.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • NJ Licensure in a mental health or substance abuse discipline preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Builds relationships with landlords, realtors, brokers, and property managers.
  • Works directly with veterans to identify and secure appropriate housing.
  • Conducts housing searches and assists with applications.
  • Meets veterans in community settings (shelters, jails, hospitals, homes).
  • Prepares participants for tenancy by reviewing lease terms, tenant laws, and expectations.
  • Coordinates with rapid rehousing, emergency shelter programs, and housing authorities to support smooth transitions into permanent housing.
  • Collaborates with landlords and case managers to resolve issues and maintain stable tenancies.
  • Provides ongoing support to veterans and landlords.
  • Maintains accurate, timely documentation of services.
  • Offers advocacy, referrals, and linkage to permanent housing resources.
  • Serves as liaison among veterans, housing professionals, HUD-VASH, and VA staff.
  • Tracks referrals, intake, and enrollments in the electronic health record.
  • Transports veterans safely in agency vehicles.
  • Follows fire and life safety protocols.
  • Participates in and helps organize community outreach events.
  • Supports team operations by sharing responsibilities and communicating key information.
