About The Position

This position is responsible for :
Accepts and processes residents staying in shelter overnight; monitors the activity of residents on an assigned shift ensuring safety, security and compliance to house rules; maintains accurate and complete records containing pertinent information;ensures that the shelter is maintained in a clean and proper order.
Prepares, cooks and serves meals and snacks in accordance with established guidelines and schedules;cleans kitchen and equipment; maintains inventory of kitchen supplies and food in a neat and orderly manner.

Requirements

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• One-year experience cooking food for large groups
• one-year experience performing security or social service work preferred, OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Serve-Safe Certification.
• Knowledge of general office procedures and practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients in order to control, lead and motivate behavior.
• Ability to work independently and with limited supervision while enforcing established policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of proper cooking methods and procedures.
• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to read, write and communicate the English language.
• Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and calmly while maintaining control and initiating the proper corrective action.
• Ability to lift and carry light objects; duties are usually performed be frequent walking and standing or periods of sitting.

Responsibilities

• Checks clients into the shelter; prepares and monitors client intake, prepares resident roster and maintains resident records.
• Monitors the activities of the shelter residents; ensuring safety and compliance with house rules; checks the security of the building and makes periodic rounds of entire building and records any information needed.
• Answers telephone and responds to questions regarding the shelter operations.
• Cleans, cooks and prepares a variety of meals in accordance with acceptable and economical cooking methods. Serves food in a presentable manner. Maintains proper supply and orderliness of kitchen stock inventory in order to meet the needs of the kitchen.
