About The Position

Florida Atlantic University is seeking multiple Housing Front Desk Staff. - Jupiter, FL The Front Desk Staff (FDS) is a student staff member responsible for providing customer service and promoting a safe and secure living environment by educating residents and enforcing university and residence hall policies; responding to incidents, completing accurate documentation, and supporting emergency protocols to ensure the well-being of their community.

  • OFFICIAL SEALED TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED: Final candidate will be required to have official, sealed transcripts and original NACES evaluation, if applicable, sent from their educational institution to Human Resources prior to the start of employment.
  • PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENINGS REQUIRED: Selected candidates must successfully complete and pass all employment screenings prior to the start of employment. Employment screenings may include a criminal background check (level I and level II), motor vehicle check, credit check, reference checks, alcohol, and drug screening check.

Responsibilities

  • Communication Clearly and effectively exchange information, ideas, facts, and perspectives with persons inside and outside of an organization. Effectively communicate through written, verbal, and electronic communication to facilitate excellent customer service. Connect with residents to foster a sense of belonging in the community. Clearly and accurately communicate policies and information to residents in the community. Share information about students of concern with hall staff promptly and efficiently, consistent with departmental protocols.
  • Professionalism Understand and demonstrate effective work habits and act in the interest of the larger community and workplace. Work at the front desk on a rotating basis as determined by supervisor, including overnight and weekend shifts. Complete all work and assigned tasks promptly, efficiently, and accurately, following departmental protocols including answering the phone, facilitating spare key check-ins/outs, checking space reservations, and other service-oriented tasks. Perform administrative duties as assigned, including but not limited to participating in hall opening and hall closing procedures, shift reports, supplies inventories, work orders, etc. Attend all work shifts, individual supervision and appraisal meetings, trainings, in-services, and other meetings as directed by supervisor. Maintain the organization and cleanliness of the front desk and back-office spaces. Represent yourself, the community, staff, the department, and FAU with the utmost integrity, including in-person situations and via social media.
  • Teamwork Build and maintain collaborative relationships to work effectively toward common goals while appreciating other viewpoints and shared responsibilities. Take initiative, responsibility, and investment as a staff member in displaying a positive work ethic and behaviors and encourage this attitude in others. Hold your peers accountable and engage with each other directly appropriately to resolve conflict and work together as a unified team. Treat all department staff (RAs, FDS, professional staff, and facilities staff) with respect.
  • Critical Thinking Identify and respond to needs based upon an understanding of situational context and logical analysis of relevant information. Demonstrate critical thinking and ethical decision-making in accordance with Housing and Residential Education values. Confront and document policy violations outlined in the Community Guidebook, Student Code of Conduct, and state and federal law. Follow all policies regarding authorized key access, access to rooms, and student information. Understand and follow confidentiality standards with regard to policy violations and student behavioral concerns as directed by Housing and Residential Education, University policy, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Leadership Recognize and capitalize on personal and team strengths to achieve organizational goals. Be visible and available to residents while at the desk to assist them in addressing personal and community concerns. Commit to the FDS job as the first priority after academic needs. Supervisor notification is needed for outside employment. Approach tasks with confidence and a positive attitude.
  • Technology Understand and leverage technologies ethically to enhance efficiency, complete tasks, and accomplish goals. Appropriately use provided technology to complete required tasks related to building management and student engagement. Programs include StarRez, KeyPer, C-Cure, Avigilon, Canvas, Teams, SchoolDude, Workday, and Microsoft Office Suite. Monitor cameras and door access continually, ensuring building safety and security. Submit clear, concise, and accurate Incident Reports in a timely manner. Submit timely and accurate work orders to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient residence hall environment. Enter time accurately to reflect hours worked and submit timesheets weekly. Utilize your FAU email account and Teams for work-related functions and check that account regularly.
  • Career and Self Development Proactively develop oneself and one’s career through continual personal and professional learning, awareness of one’s strengths and weaknesses, navigation of career opportunities, and networking to build relationships within and without one’s organization. Attend a comprehensive staff training, including Student Affairs Core Competencies, at the beginning of each semester.
