About The Position

Wake County is excited to offer an incredible opportunity as a Housing Diversion Specialist-make a difference in your community today! The Housing Diversion Specialist responsible for identifying and transitioning guests into a full range of permanent housing opportunities, including individual apartments and shared housing. The Housing navigator will be based at the South Wilmington Street Center but may also conduct outreach activities to connect with local landlords. The Housing Diversion Specialist will work as a lead for a case management team that works closely with landlords to identify units. The Housing Diversion Specialist provides guidance and support to guests and staff in the searching for and securing of housing utilizing their housing stabilization plan and personal goals. They will assist clients with housing applications, complete supportive and subsidized housing paperwork, survey rental market for affordable housing, and advocate for clients with prospective landlords. They will also support participants in creation and evaluation of safety plans, provide education on their rights, and connect them to community services and resources. About Our Team Wake County Department of Housing Affordability and Community Revitalization goal is to ensure that quality affordable housing is available and accessible for all Wake County residents. As the population and economy continue to grow in Wake County, the need for affordable housing development and preservation increases. Not only do more units of affordable housing need to be built, housing services must be provided to support families and individuals to access or maintain safe, decent, affordable housing. Affordable housing is also critical to preserving Wake County's economic competitiveness by offering housing for workers at all income levels, supporting housing stability and economic opportunity for its residents, and furthering Wake County's commitment to healthy and inclusive growth. The Department's programs include: Community Revitalization, Development Financing, Homeless and Prevention Services, Emergency Shelter, Support Services and Permanent Supportive Housing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • No specific experience required
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Nice To Haves

  • English and Spanish Bilingual preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work and relevant work experience or/and Master's preferred
  • Housing/Homeless Prevention Experience
  • Experience with conducting intake assessments; referring out to community resources
  • Knowledge and experience with evidence of ongoing training and education in related areas such as mental illness, substance abuse and homelessness

Responsibilities

  • Support participants with housing searches, applications, paperwork and identifying affordable options
  • Maintain current housing lists and ensure accurate client data and case notes
  • Act as a liaison between housing authorities and landlords and recruiting and training landlords for shared living
  • Support property recruitment and marketing efforts, note restrictions to help guests identify appropriate housing options and resolve participant or landlord conflicts
  • Communicate effectively with team members and attend required meetings and trainings
  • Perform other duties as assigned
