About The Position

THIS POSITION IS LOCATED AT 1 FORDHAM PLAZA BRONX, NY The New York City Housing Authority is seeking a Housing Assistant for the Leased Housing Department’s Bronx Client Services team. The unit is responsible for completing annual and interim reviews of household income and household composition, processing lease renewals/rent increases, and communicating with program participants and landlords. Reporting to the Assistant Manager, the Housing Assistant’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college; or
  • An associate degree or sixty semester credits from an accredited college and one year of satisfactory full-time experience in housing management at a development or developments containing at least 150 apartments, performing any one or a combination of the following duties: interviewing applicants; determining eligibility; gathering and evaluating information to resolve complaints; collecting rents; and/or resolving tenant-related problems; or
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and three years of satisfactory full-time experience as described in “1” above; or
  • A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience as described in "1" or "2" above.
  • Undergraduate college credit may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for one year of satisfactory full-time experience. However, all candidates must have a four-year high school diploma, or its educational equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Use HUD regulations, NYCHA policy, and procedure to review and evaluate documents to process lease renewals, annual, and interim recertifications.
  • Perform income verification.
  • Complete case corrections.
  • Process household updates.
  • Research and provide an accurate analysis of case activities.
  • Analyze and resolve income discrepancies.
  • Process lease renewal requests.
  • Create and process payment adjustments.
  • Respond to information requests, emails, and correspondence.
  • Ensure timely delivery of responses to inquiries.
  • Identify and escalate case and system issues for immediate follow-up.
  • Report system issues and suggest enhancements to improve operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
