About The Position

The Housekeeping Custodian Worker is responsible for routine work involving sweeping, mopping, dusting, disposing of trash, and other simple cleaning duties. Training will be provided in completing more advanced tasks, such as the disposal of restricted or environmentally hazardous materials. This position performs landscaping tasks using power equipment and hand tools to maintain facility grounds.

Requirements

  • Education and experience requirements at this level consist of six months’ experience in building or institutional custodial work or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability is required to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of various cleaning methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work; of proper procedures for disposing of waste, including medically contaminated sharps and/or medically soiled and contaminated dressings and supplies; and of chemical product safety.
  • Skill is required to operate custodial equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Remove all trash from building (except medical waste), clean sinks, toilets, chrome accessories & mirrors in restrooms.
  • Clean sinks in all clinic rooms, clean entry doors and glass, vacuum carpet and wet mop restroom floors & other tile floors.
  • Keeps restrooms supplied with paper, towels, and soap.
  • Clean handprints, dirt, etc. from all doors, walls, and fixtures.
  • Dust furniture, fixtures, windowsills, baseboards, desks, file cabinets and counter tops.
  • Spot clean carpet as needed.
  • Collects and disposes of trash and garbage; move equipment tables, and chairs.
  • Dust and/or vacuum high areas including all vents, and mini blinds.
  • Spray and buff all tile floors.
  • Performs sanitary inspections in designated areas for purposes of infection control.
  • All windows are to be cleaned inside and out twice a year.
  • Replaces and removes medically contaminated sharps and/or medically soiled and contaminated dressings and supplies.
  • Orders and distributes custodial supplies; maintains inventory.
  • Observes and reports safety violations; actively participates in emergency situations.
  • Assists in training and continued education of lower-level workers.
  • Plans, assigns, and supervises all functions of a housekeeping department.
  • Inspects quarters for maintenance of proper housekeeping standards.
  • Supervises and maintains records of the distribution of furnishings.
  • Maintains necessary records; prepares required reports.
  • Establishes housekeeping standards; assists with policy planning; prepares departmental budget request.
  • Picks-up and removes trash prior to mowing a designated area.
  • Mows lawns, trims weeds, and rakes leaves as assigned.
  • Trims bushes, shrubs, and hedges.
  • Ensures parking lot and sidewalks are free of weeds and grass.
  • Plant trees and prunes them when necessary.
  • Completes snow removal tasks such as shoveling sidewalks, steps, and doorways as needed during winter months.
  • Being present at the office is an essential function of the job.
  • Other duties as assigned.
