About The Position

The Housekeeping and Support Services Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, administration and day-to-day supervision of the Academic Housekeeping, Mail Services, Shipping & Receiving, Warehouse Operations, and Surplus Operations (i.e., Support Services). This area provides housekeeping services for campus facilities including offices, libraries, student health & counseling, laboratories and research centers, classrooms, student union, and theater building. The employee is also responsible for the Mail Services which provides UPS shipping and delivery, US Postal service, Fed-Ex shipping and delivery service; the Shipping & Receiving which provides large and small freight receiving and delivery services; the Warehouse Operations which includes the state surplus functions, the gasoline billing and pump management, management and handling of the uniform operations, the campus paper orders and delivery; and the Parts Warehouse which provides inventory supply for trades areas, issuing supplies, stocking shelves and customer service. She/he develops policies and procedures, designs checklists and training programs, sets standards for performance, and maintains constant oversight to ensure that guidelines are followed and department goals are reached. The Manager engages with vendors to maintain up-to-date knowledge regarding products, equipment and tools; and engages in constant public relations with the campus community regarding problems and/or concerns about Housekeeping and Support Services. In this role, she/he develops and manages the Housekeeping and Support Services areas; trains the Supervisory staff in supervisory matters and other personnel as appropriate. As manager of this area, she/he is directly involved in the drafting of all position descriptions, work plans, and advertisements; serves on all selection committees, orients and trains new employees; is responsible for all safety training; approves and/or instigates all disciplinary actions; and maintains a departmental awareness for such matters as harassment, equal opportunity, and ADA compliance.

Requirements

  • Graduation from High School or possession of a GED, and four years of experience in the area assigned, two years of which must have been supervisory; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Degrees must be received from an appropriately accredited institution.
  • Where applicable, must be eligible for required certification.
  • Strong knowledge of cleaning products, equipment, techniques and safety protocols.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, train and manage a diverse team.
  • Ability to quickly problem solve and resolve operational issues or complaints.

Nice To Haves

  • Three to five years of previous supervisory experience in an educational setting or in the cleaning of public buildings is preferred.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, especially related to cleanliness standards critical for maintain a high quality experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Past experience in scheduling staff, managing inventory, and prioritizing tasks.
  • Basic computer skills needed. Familiarity with Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and sanitation protocols.
  • Experience managing budgets and maintaining inventory.
