The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. Work in this class involves the cleaning and minor maintenance of an assigned area. Positions perform a variety of duties in the care and cleaning of State facilities. Duties may include physically strenuous activities such as moving furniture, operating heavy cleaning equipment, and delivering large quantities of housekeeping supplies/linen. Work is performed under close supervision, guided by a daily schedule for general assignments and specific instructions for special assignments. Work is reviewed through inspections and frequent consultation with supervisory personnel.
