Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, preferred
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.

  • Education High School diploma, preferred.
  • Experience 3 months previous cleaning experience.
  • 1 year previous cleaning experience in a retirement community or similar.
  • Professional Membership, Licensures, Certifications Not applicable.
  • Language Ability: This individual must be able to speak and read the English language in an understandable manner in order to communicate with residents, employees, family members, volunteers and the public.
  • Must have ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from residents and the general public.
  • Math Ability: Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
  • Reasoning Ability: Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Computer Skills: Not applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cleaning procedures in accordance with facility policy.
  • Observe waste disposal procedures in accordance with facility policy.
  • Follow directions.
  • Assist in the proper care and use of housekeeping equipment.
  • Identify and report any equipment malfunction to supervisor.
  • Report any observed area in poor repair to supervisor.
  • Dispense soap, paper and other housekeeping supplies.
  • Attend in-service training programs for Housekeeping employees.
  • Observe infection control procedures related to the Housekeeping Department.
  • Follow Resident’s Rights policies at all times.
  • Follow facility safety program.
  • Come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality.
  • Accept assigned duties in a cooperative manner.
  • Possess high moral and ethical standards.
  • Must understand the need to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness in a nursing/retirement/adult day care center.
  • Must be able to work cooperatively with fellow employees and with residents.
  • Limited elderly resident interactions occur.
  • Assume accountability for data contained in the employee’s handbook.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by supervisor.
  • Ability to work under inside environmental conditions and possible exposures to bloodborne pathogens, chemical hazards, and respiratory hazards.
  • Assist with weather emergencies and other emergencies as directed by the Housekeeping Coordinator.
  • Assist with fire or other internal or external disasters as directed by the supervisor.
  • Assist in the set up and clean up of dining rooms for resident meals.
  • Adheres to the Values and Expectations statement and element of the compliance program.
