About The Position

Responsible for promoting and maintaining quality patient care through the effective management and utilization of resources (staff and supplies) on all patient care units and for patient populations with diverse needs related to their illness, injury, age, developmental stage, or cultural background. Requirements

  • ADN or ASN Degree.
  • Valid WV RN license.
  • BLS and ACLS within 30 days of hire.
  • Four years of current nursing experience that includes various patient populations, experience as a charge nurse, nurse manager or supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Deals with patient care concerns and care issues as they occur and reports as appropriate.
  • Assigns and adjusts nursing personnel to provide adequate staffing for all units, ensuring the appropriate skill mix to support unit acuity levels and the delivery of safe patient care on his/her respective shift and adjust staff for oncoming shift based on realistically anticipated needs.
  • Makes administrative decisions related to the delivery of patient care and keep Nurse Managers and the President/COO informed of circumstances or situations which have or may have a serious impact on patient care or the hospital.
  • Visits all patient care units to ascertain condition of patients, evaluate staffing needs and provide support and expert advice to care givers. Acts as a resource for clinical and administrative issues.
  • Ensures the effective distribution and utilization of personnel on respective shifts. Confirms and, as necessary, arranges for sufficient staff to meet patient care needs for the following shift.
  • Places patients with regard to need for nursing care; staffs’ availability and ability to meet needs; technology required; safety and infection control guidelines; and other established criteria.
  • Establishes and maintains an environment and climate in which all personnel can provide safe, efficient and high quality care.
  • Seeks to add to knowledge and skills and assumes responsibility for professional development.
  • Maintains and reports departmental information and statistics for administrative and regulatory purposes meeting the required time standards.
  • Interprets to staff, and when appropriate to others, policies, procedures, standards of care and practice for the department regarding budget and financial issues.
  • Exercises proper stewardship through the appropriate use of supplies, equipment, and personnel. Consistently documents to ensure that supplies are accurately charged. Flexing of staff schedules to maintain budget based on fluctuations of patient census and productivity.
  • Follows hospital, state and federal guidelines for ensuring safe environment for workers, patients and public. Maintains and monitors staff compliance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures for safety, security, and infection control.
  • Interprets policies, procedures, standards of care and practices, safety and infection control functions to staff and others.
  • Provides clinical services consistent with licensure when necessary to ensure unit/department is operating efficiently and effectively.
  • Communicates and interacts with patients, families, visitors, physicians, departmental and hospital staff and the public in general in a manner that demonstrates professionalism and concern for the individuals' need(s).
  • Remains current and responsive to changes in healthcare delivery, standards established by professional organizations, regulatory and accrediting bodies and the needs of the organization.
  • Determines options for meeting identified learning needs of staff in cooperation with the Education Department and participates with the orientation of new staff.
  • Develops and implements processes to assess and improve the services provided and compliance with regulatory requirements. Reports results to appropriate administrative levels.
