Job Summary: The House Supervisor provides patient care clinical coordination 24-hours a day and serves as the on-site representative of nursing leadership, department directors and hospital administration during the off shifts and weekends. Provides nursing leadership, mentoring, feedback, and clinical support to nurses working on Med/Surg, OB, SCU, ER, and OR. Coordinates the clinical care of patients and ensures continuity of care by supervising operational aspects of patient care units in collaboration with department directors and Chief Nursing Officer. OVERVIEW: MercyOne Newton Medical Center is a fully owned hospital of MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center and a member of MercyOne Network. It is located in the city of Newton, Iowa, county seat of Jasper County. Positioned on Interstate 80, the nation's only east/west transcontinental interstate highway, Newton is about 30 miles east of the Des Moines metropolitan area, which has a population in excess of 400,000. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Meets all basic requirements of the Medical/Surgical/Pediatric, ER, SCU and OB staff nurse (RN) positions. Demonstrates exceptional leadership skills. Demonstrates teamwork and the ability to participate effectively with other nursing leaders to meet Skiff Medical Center's mission and organizational goals as part of the nursing leadership team. Serves as a mentor and role model for nursing staff. Maintains strict confidentiality for employee-related issues. Demonstrates excellent communication skills. Resolves conflict in a positive manner. Able to use experience and education to make appropriate clinical prioritization decisions. Makes proactive, cost-effective and safe resource allocation decisions, including shift-by-shift staffing decisions. Provides overall management and coordination of all hospital departments on a shift-by-shift basis. Coordinates clinical care and ensures continuity of patient care. Serves as liaison between nursing and physicians when necessary. Participates collaboratively with department director in evaluating staff performance. Holds staff accountable to organizational values, standards of practice and behavior. Addresses formal complaints in a timely manner with a focus on service recovery. Supports department directors and actively engages in quality assessment and performance improvement. Attends leadership and other appropriate organizational meetings.
