About The Position

Job Summary: The House Supervisor provides patient care clinical coordination 24-hours a day and serves as the on-site representative of nursing leadership, department directors and hospital administration during the off shifts and weekends. Provides nursing leadership, mentoring, feedback, and clinical support to nurses working on Med/Surg, OB, SCU, ER, and OR. Coordinates the clinical care of patients and ensures continuity of care by supervising operational aspects of patient care units in collaboration with department directors and Chief Nursing Officer. OVERVIEW: MercyOne Newton Medical Center is a fully owned hospital of MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center and a member of MercyOne Network. It is located in the city of Newton, Iowa, county seat of Jasper County. Positioned on Interstate 80, the nation’s only east/west transcontinental interstate highway, Newton is about 30 miles east of the Des Moines metropolitan area, which has a population in excess of 400,000. MercyOne Newton has a well-deserved reputation for bucking the trend of diminished health care in rural America by enhancing the quantity and quality of its services during the last two decades. This has been accomplished by expanding, remodeling and providing technological improvements to its physical facilities and by adding new physicians. Our campus in Newton has 48 beds and about 200,000 square feet of space. Requirements

BSN (or other bachelor’s degree) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
A minimum of two years clinical experience as RN staff nurse.
Current unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse from the State of Iowa.
Able to maintain basic nursing competency in Med/Surg, ER, OB, SCU in order to offer hands on support to nursing staff.
Ability to interpret telemetry required.
Documented nursing leadership experience, skills and behaviors.
Able to manage resources and people effectively.
Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
Professional history of high-level clinical performance, judgment, prioritization and organization.
Overall behavior serves as a role model for nursing and other staff.
Understands and is able to apply the nursing process to patient care situations.
Skilled in meeting the growth and development needs of infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric groups.
Possesses knowledge and understanding of cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological maturation processes of these patient groups.
Functions well in emergency situations.
Maintains BCLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC and NRP certifications.

Experience in Med/Surg, ER, SCU and OB preferred.
