About The Position

The Kitchen Technician is responsible for the inspection, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all commercial kitchen equipment across Moody Gardens food and beverage operations. This role plays a critical part in ensuring safe, efficient, and uninterrupted culinary operations while maintaining compliance with all applicable safety, health, and regulatory standards. POSITION AUTHORITY: The incumbent is authorized to take reasonable action necessary to carry out assigned duties and responsibilities, provided such action aligns with established position guidelines, company policies, departmental procedures, and supervisory directives. Sound judgment, initiative, and professionalism are expected in the execution of all responsibilities. POSITION GUIDELINES: The Kitchen Technician is expected to perform all duties in a manner that supports the safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operation of Moody Gardens’ food and beverage facilities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Inspect, maintain, and repair commercial kitchen equipment including, but not limited to · Ovens, ranges, grills, fryers, steamers, and warming units · Refrigeration systems, coolers, freezers, and ice machines · Dishwashers, sanitation systems, and food service machinery · Exhaust hoods, fire suppression interfaces, and ventilation systems o Perform preventative maintenance according to manufacturer recommendations and departmental schedules. o Diagnose mechanical, electrical, gas, and refrigeration system issues and complete repairs in a timely and safe manner. o Observe and strictly follow all safety protocols related to gas, electric, and HVAC-connected equipment. o Respond promptly to service requests to minimize downtime and operational disruption. o Coordinate with the Maintenance Manager, Executive Chef, and culinary leadership to prioritize repairs and maintenance needs. o Document maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and parts usage in accordance with departmental standards. o Ensure all work complies with health department regulations, fire safety codes, OSHA requirements, and company policies. o Identify aging or failing equipment and proactively recommend repair, replacement, or upgrades. o Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. o Support special events, peak operational periods, and emergency maintenance needs as required. o Perform other duties as assigned to support overall facility operations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in commercial kitchen equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Demonstrated experience working with large-scale kitchen equipment in hospitality, hotel, resort, or institutional food service environments.
  • Extensive working knowledge of parts, tools, and systems required to service commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Certified HVAC maintenance license required.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and safety documentation.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
  • Effective communication skills when working with culinary teams, managers, and vendors.
  • Commitment to safety, compliance, and quality workmanship.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally waist-high or above.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, wet, noisy, and confined environments for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

  • Trade school or technical education preferred.
  • EPA refrigerant handling certification preferred.
