About The Position

Provide friendly, responsive service to create an exceptional dining experience for all our guests, by welcoming and warmly greeting them upon arrival. Manage the efficient and timely seating of our guests to a table that best serves their wishes. Primary Responsibilities: Work and act in a manner consistent with the mission of The Hive: To serve our customers reliably and well. To treat our employees with respect.

Requirements

  • Able to understand and speak using the predominant language(s) of guests.
  • Able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 5 hours).
  • Able to obtain CA Food Handler’s Certificate.
  • Possess basic math skills and have the ability to handle money and operate a cash register.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and graciously with guests and fellow staff members.
  • Able to communicate clearly with managers, kitchen and dining room employees.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Must have exceptional organization skills and ability to multi-task under pressure while staying composed.

Responsibilities

  • Open the front door for guests entering or leaving the restaurant when possible.
  • Warmly and graciously greet all guests and seat them at tables or in waiting areas.
  • Provide guests with menus and inform them of their server’s name upon seating.
  • Record guest names and the number of people in the party and provide guests with estimated waiting time when immediate seating is limited.
  • Assign guests to tables suitable for their needs and according to rotation so that servers receive an appropriate number of seating.
  • Inform guests when tables become available.
  • Seat guest as tables become available while being sure to space out seating as necessary to ensure kitchen ticket times and floor service do not suffer.
  • Speak with guests to ensure satisfaction with food and service, to respond to complaints, or to make conversation.
  • Answer telephone calls and respond to inquiries or transfer calls.
  • Check phone messages frequently.
  • Receive and record guests' dining reservations.
  • Maintain reservations, ensuring that tables are assigned/reserved properly for best outcome.
  • Maintain contact with kitchen staff, management, serving staff, and guests to ensure that dining details are handled properly and customers' concerns are addressed.
  • Inspect dining and serving areas to ensure cleanliness and proper setup.
  • Direct guests to waiting areas such as the bar or bee observation room.
  • Inform guests of establishment specialties and features.
  • Become knowledgeable about the OHB company, its history, and Chico Honey products, through company provided training in order to share this information with customers.
  • Relay messages to servers and bussers as needed.
  • Thank guests as they leave and invite them to return.
  • Coordinate with, and assist fellow employees, to meet guests’ needs and support the operation of the restaurant.
  • Fill-in for fellow employees where needed to ensure guest service standards and efficient operations.
  • Attend all scheduled employee meetings and offers suggestions for improvement.
