About The Position

Directs program development, operations, and delivery for Family Camps, Conferences, Retreats, housekeeping, and administrative functions at YMCA Camp Orkila. Oversees designated program areas and ensures high-quality guest experiences. Standard work schedule includes weekend responsibilities. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in program area or related field or equivalent education / experience.
  • One or more years of related experience, including staff and volunteer supervision, program development, budget management, and fundraising.
  • General knowledge of assigned program area(s).
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications required.
  • Most positions require skills in child behavior management and child abuse prevention. Most positions require ability to visit sites and community organizations.
  • Strong skills with computer systems, including Microsoft Teams, Excel, and Word.
  • Camping: Experience and demonstrated ability in year-round camp programming and operation. Knowledge of American Camping Association guidelines.
  • Eligibility to obtain Commercial Driver's License.
  • Adventure programs at camp require specialized training and experience in adventure education, rock climbing, biking, high-ropes operation / repair, kayaking and / or boating.
  • Child Care: Knowledge of childcare licensing requirements, YMCA standards, and American Camping Association standards for day camps.
  • Community Programs: Broad knowledge of assigned program areas, which can include any area below as well as youth sports, day camp, parent-child programs, etc.
  • Family Programs: Knowledge of family support principles and best practices for family involvement.
  • Proven experience in training others.
  • Membership / Marketing: Experience in membership, marketing and/or sales.
  • This position requires driving: This role transports clients as an “authorized driver” for the YMCA of Greater Seattle (YGS) using an employer-provided vehicle. Driving duties for this role are Required. Driving roles are safety-sensitive. To become an authorized driver, you must be 21+, have possessed a driver's license for at least 3 years, and pass a drug screen that will test for impairing substances (including marijuana) in addition to meeting the YGS Driving Record Standards listed in the job description. (Due to state-specific requirements in our driver management system, we are not currently able to enroll California Driver's License holders as authorized drivers.)

Responsibilities

  • Directs the development and delivery of Family and Conference and Retreat programming for rental groups, ensuring high-quality experiences that drive repeat business.
  • Recruits, books, and hosts rental groups ranging from 20 to 500 participants, focusing on maximizing occupancy and service.
  • Oversees camp operations including transportation, program services, facility cleanliness, and emergency management to maintain operational excellence.
  • Manages transportation for all arrival and departures for summer programs.
  • Drives new business through strategic group relationships, targeted outreach, and acquisition efforts to increase revenue.
  • Establishes new program activities and expands offerings within the community to enhance engagement and align with strategic growth plans.
  • Develops and manages budgets, meets fiscal objectives, and closely monitors revenue and expenses to ensure financial sustainability.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises staff and volunteers, fostering leadership and professional development to deliver exceptional programs.
  • Manages critical program areas at camp, which may include challenge courses, aquatics, camp store, and offsite programs, to ensure operational success and participant satisfaction. This includes getting any relevant certifications.
  • Supports other program directors in managing critical program areas.
  • Provides excellent customer service in person and oversees administrative customer support functions for teams at camp to ensure positive participant experience.
  • Provides leadership and support for branch management, fundraising campaigns, and volunteer committees to strengthen organizational impact.
  • Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations to expand program reach and enhance reputation.
  • Ensures compliance with YMCA, ACA, and regulatory standards, prioritizing safety and risk management across all programs.
  • Maintains high program quality through innovative development, regular evaluations, and ongoing staff training.
  • Oversees upkeep of facilities and equipment to ensure a safe and appealing environment for participants.
  • Manages year-round office operations including booking, banking, and accounting to support efficient business processes.
  • Obtains a Class B CDL within one year of hire to support transportation needs and operational flexibility.
  • Leads summer operations by managing office and housekeeping teams, overseeing camper transportation, and fulfilling assigned roles to ensure smooth seasonal delivery.
  • Provides leadership and program oversight to outdoor education programs to ensure quality, safety, and alignment with organizational goals.
