About The Position

The Hospital Supervisor is a Registered Nurse (RN) responsible for the overall functioning of all departments at Mountains Community Hospital during off-hours (after weekday hours and on weekends) when department managers are not present. During regular weekday hours, the Hospital Supervisor supports department operations in cooperation with Department Managers, who retain ultimate responsibility for their departments. This role's authority is delegated from Department Managers and Senior Management, aligning with the State of California Nursing Practice Act. The supervisor uses independent judgment to manage and oversee nursing, hospital, and District operations on their assigned shift. Key responsibilities include coordinating patient care logistics, managing admissions and outpatient procedures, addressing patient complaints, providing service recovery, and ensuring care adheres to a patient and family-centered model. The supervisor is also tasked with maintaining efficient, economically responsible, and quality patient care staffing levels, maximizing patient flow, and acting as an onsite administrative representative in the absence of hospital administrators. The position requires in-depth knowledge of departmental and organizational policies, as well as state and federal regulations, and demands performance that consistently supports the organization's mission and values.

Requirements

  • Active and unencumbered State of California Registered Nursing license
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certificate
  • Telemetry certificate within 6 months of hire
  • Critical Care experience/ ED Experience

Responsibilities

  • Supervises operations of the hospital while on shift including coordination of patient care, staff development and management, regulatory compliance, policy enforcement, and ensuring standards of nursing practice are met.
  • Acts as a clinical resource for staff.
  • Upholds Human Resource policies including those related to staff breaks and lunches.
  • Anticipates potential problems and intervenes to minimize adverse impacts.
  • Independently manages the resolution of issues that arise during the course of the shift.
  • Independently executes and manages decisions in the absence of the hospital administrator and/or Department Manager.
  • Determines the need to contact the Administrator on call and/or Department Manager.
  • Ensures that patient care is delivered in a manner that supports the Mission and Values of the hospital and promotes quality improvement, patient centered care, and interdepartmental/ interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, leadership, effective communication, and initiative in all job responsibilities and all duties.
