As a Hospital Safety Officer working in the Behavioral Health Center, you will play a critical role in keeping our patients, visitors and caregivers safe every day. This role rounds in the Behavioral Health Units, Emergency Departments and other assigned areas, engaging with patients and promoting a safe, therapeutic environment in collaboration with departmental clinical staff. Your diligence ensures the delivery of exceptional care and upholds the safe, secure environment our community has come to expect from Cleveland Clinic. This position offers a meaningful opportunity to make a lasting difference while gaining hands-on experience in a healthcare setting. A caregiver in this role works days from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. with weekend and holiday requirements.

Requirements

  • Associates degree and two years of customer service experience OR High School Diploma/GED or equivalent and an additional two years of prior experience within a behavioral health, hospital, security, or other related setting may offset the education
  • Ability to successfully complete training as required by the department

Nice To Haves

  • Class “D” Security Office License from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services

Responsibilities

  • Offer continuous visibility and rounding throughout assigned areas to promote positive perception of safety for all patients, visitors and staff.
  • Identify Patients at Risk and provide necessary clinical and security notifications.
  • Attend to escalating incidents, identify issues and act appropriately to eliminate safety hazards.
  • Assist in re-direction and de-escalation of patient situations, working to prevent aggressive behavior, seclusion and restraint by utilizing the least restrictive methods.
  • Intervene in patient, visitor and/or staff confrontations as appropriate using the least restrictive methods.
  • Assist staff with processing new admissions by assisting with safety search and inventory of belongings.
  • Ensure all patients and visitors have been screened via magnetometer or wand as appropriate.
  • Act as a first responder to patient threats of violence.
  • Participate in safety rounds with Emergency Department and/or Behavioral Health Unit staff.
  • Complete appropriate documentation of various incidents.
