About The Position

At VCA Northwest Veterinary Specialists in Clackamas, Oregon is looking for an experienced Hospital Director to join our team! We are a high volume, state-of-the-art specialty referral and 24-hour critical care hospital providing a variety of specialties including Internal Medicine, Emergency/Critical Care, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Cardiology, Radiology and Surgery. At VCA Northwest Veterinary Specialists, we've helped pets live long, healthy, and happy lives since 1991. We deliver the best medical care for pets and the best experience for the pet owner. The Hospital Director will be responsible for a wide range of complex administrative activities to ensure quality patient care, excellent client service, management of finances and accounting, marketing, promotion of services, staffing and human resources, and discretionary activities that serve to support effective business operations. The Hospital Director will oversee the performance of approximately 130 associates including doctors, technicians, veterinary assistants, and paraprofessional staff. The successful candidate will join an organization that genuinely values local input and decision-making.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of strong leadership experience with a track record of developing and leading high-performing teams.
  • 2–3 years of experience in Hospitality Management, Hotel Management, Business Administration, or Operations Management with full P&L responsibility.
  • Knowledge of sales and marketing techniques.
  • Strong human resources background with experience in hiring, coaching, and performance management.
  • Proven experience in client relations and delivering exceptional service.
  • Skilled communicator who builds trust and engagement across teams.
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities and performing under pressure in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Ability to balance immediate business needs with long-term strategic goals.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior specialty or emergency veterinary management experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Accountability for the hospital profit & loss statements.
  • Partner with the Medical Director to facilitate delivery of the best possible medical and surgical care to our patients.
  • Responsibility to foster a collaborative and positive culture and work environment.
  • Responsible for consistently delivering results that contribute to the mission and overall success of the hospital, by accomplishing performance objectives focused on business revenues, client, and associate satisfaction.
  • Focus on exceeding client expectations.
  • Partner with Marketing Manager in promoting the hospital & cultivate relationships within the veterinary community.
  • Develop and grow future leaders.
  • Oversight and development of onboarding, training, and continued growth of our associates.
  • Support the recruitment and retention of medical professionals
