About The Position

Plans, directs, and coordinates patient care activities in the hospital, including medical/surgical floor, surgery, emergency, pharmacy, and other clinical functions to maintain standards of patient care quality. Advises medical staff, department heads, and administration in matters related to nursing service by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Recommends establishment or revision of policies, procedures, and methods, and develops organizational structure and standards of performance. Ensures all policies and procedures for nursing departments are in compliance with federal and state regulations; staff are educated on policies and complying with them, and that policies are upholding necessary care standards for patient care and safety. Stays up to date on regulatory changes to ensure ongoing compliance. Works closely with the Chief Clinical Officer, Nursing staff, Medical Staff, and Administration to ensure that all patient care standards are being met in the Hospital nursing departments. Directs the Assistant Director of Nursing position effectively and helps to ensure delegation and support of duties. Oversees the care of all patients and services through the hospital; ensures that operations are in licensure compliance for all regulatory standards (primarily KDHE). Works closely with Maintenance, I.T., Housekeeping, Laundry, Dietary, and other support departments to ensure quality standards are met. Works collaboratively to create a safe and inviting environment in the facility. Oversees all Hospital Nursing staff and ensures that requirements for licensed staff are met and staff are operating within licensure scope (CNA’s, LPN’s, RN’s, etc.). Implements and evaluates overall patient care and nursing programs and services, including surgery, outpatient treatments, pharmacy, emergency, medical/surgical floor nursing (swing bed patients and acute care patients), observation, etc., to ensure effectiveness and overall quality. Oversees and ensures pharmacy ordering and stocking are completed routinely. Manages the medication dispensing unit; evaluates pharmacy contracts, pricing, ordering, returning, and stocking throughout all nursing departments. Coordinates with contracted pharmacist to ensure all pharmacy practices are in compliance with regulatory standards. Fields all patient, visitor, and family member complaints; conducts investigations, communicates with stakeholders, and completes grievance/ investigation processes as required by law. Ensures all investigations are completed, and necessary actions are reported to governing entities.
