About The Position

The Hospice Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, training, supporting, and retaining hospice volunteers who provide compassionate companionship and support to patients and families. This role ensures compliance with hospice regulations while strengthening community engagement and enhancing the quality of end-of-life care.

Strong organizational and communication skills
Experience coordinating volunteers or community programs
Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Hospice or healthcare experience
Bachelor’s degree preferred in social services, healthcare, education, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Knowledge of end-of-life care principles
Experience with volunteer training programs

Responsibilities

Volunteer Program Management Recruit, interview, and onboard hospice volunteers
Coordinate volunteer assignments based on patient and family needs
Maintain required volunteer documentation and service hour tracking
Ensure compliance with hospice regulatory standards
Training & Education Develop and deliver volunteer orientation programs
Provide ongoing education and support opportunities
Ensure volunteers understand hospice philosophy and scope of service
Patient & Family Support Coordination Match volunteers with appropriate patient/family situations
Monitor volunteer visits and satisfaction
Address concerns promptly and professionally
Community Outreach Represent hospice services at community events
Build relationships with local organizations, schools, and faith communities
Promote awareness of hospice volunteer opportunities
Program Compliance Maintain volunteer files per Medicare Conditions of Participation
Track volunteer hours to meet regulatory requirements
Support quality improvement initiatives
