About The Position

Coastal Hospice invites you to join a team of caregivers who are committed to promoting dignity and quality of life for patients and families who face life-limiting conditions. A Coastal Hospice Respiratory Therapist: Restores patient’s pulmonary function and alleviates discomfort. Meets patient’s goals through assessment of pulmonary function tests. Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings. Determines respiratory therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians and by prescription. Operates mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems and aerosol generators. Performs bronchopulmonary drainage and assists with breathing exercises. Monitors physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases and blood chemistry changes. Completes discharge planning by consulting with physicians, nurses, social workers and other health care workers. Designs home exercise programs and instructs patients and their caregivers, and may recommend assistive equipment. Completes accurate and timely documentation of patient care into electronic medical record. Ensures proper operation of equipment and follows protocol for maintenance as necessary. Maintains professional and technical knowledge with continuing education. Provides internal education for Coastal Hospice Staff as requested. Assists hospice staff during compassionate withdrawal of life support.

Requirements

  • Complies with Federal, state and local legal and certification requirements
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge with continuing education
  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum 2+ years experience preferred
  • Certification by the National Board for Respiratory Care, Inc. (NBRC)
  • CPR certified
